Right where to start.

what is the best thing to do keep the original airbox and build from that ? or straight from turbo to the snorkel with an air filter attached on top like the k&n/pipercross ones

right what is the diameter of the pipe work that i would need and locally where would be the best place to get it from ie b&q??

what is the best thing to cut a hole in the wing ?

would i be ok attaching the pipe work to the door frame or to the pillar instead ?

main body of snorkel is this just standard drain pipe and what size would be advisable ? and should i silicone it all in in place or use solvent weld instead

top of snorkel is it best to have a dome one or a scoop type one ?:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs

drain pipe?

I'm gonna get you a BIG orange DynoRod sticker for your bonnet.....:lol

patrolman did a d.i.y snorkel ..... if you search its on here somewhere , im sure he used drain pipe

seen that one already mate but its a patrol not the t2/mav so will be slightly different sizes

ive a K&N induction air filter...

hang on...

but the fitting is a nice round outlet to fit the induction on..

ah mr zippy if i did that i woudl end up with a broke engine again lol;)

am trying to see if it is worth while to keep the existing filter and housing :thumbs

i had a nice pipercross unit om my old rover vitesse, but with a filter above the roof might look a bit daft lol

search for makeitfit and extreme 4x4 snorkels, i know theres ends up inside, but the link to the air box is what your after..

I personally think plastic drain pipe looks sh*t! On a nice car like yours it just would not look right, an SJ or Landy fair enough but not a shapely mav

Did you see the tread on the other forum where I made one out of a short length of stainless and some flexi hose? Really looked the part, especially with the Landy mushroom top, it looked proper and just like one from Paddock 4x4.

As for the wing hole, I have a hole saw and arbour exactly for that job, 2.5" flexi hose fits perfectly. Thats the minimum size of pipe i'd use to seeing as your engine will suck a lot of air in being turbo'd and you dont want to restrict the air flow, if anything a good snorkel should aid air-flow and also help running by feeding cooler air :thumb2

PS - I once saw an SJ with a K&N on top of its snorkel up briercliffe that was loosing power fast and he could not understand why... his filter was clogged with shite as it had got wet with rain then dirt stuck to it restricting air flow

extreme raised air is what you want. it works it fits nice . dont attract attention and i find it fits in nice enough to still take the family out for the day normal driving

we have a problem compaired to most motors lol

i can have a bend in the pipe but this is easily done via a scoop on top

also the weight needs to be low due to how it will attach to the car as i dont have a pillar where the door closes just a door so i am either going to have to find a bracket that will allow me to sit behind the door which would need to be thin or a bracket that sits on the door frame

also will be painting it to match the car so it wount look like plastic as such lol

but see your point about the plastic look pap

where would be the best place to pick up the pipe work from then ???

what i am thinking is use the existing holes in the wing take a drill or saw and cut a letterbox shape only curved in the wing try to find a bit of plastic that fits the hole so i dont cut into the pipe and it dont have sharp edges exposed, maybe just 2 holes drilled in the wing follow the shape of the car i could even go with the flat type pipe work

saw a square gutter snorkel at cowm and didnt like it lol

is their just open space behind this bit or will i be hitting somthing

Woh up nelly. Dont cut too near the bulk head as theres not enough room behind the wing for the pipe. I did am external snorkel on my old mav. Just used a southdown wing moulding (ebay) then a piece of stainless exhaust bent to match the screen pillar. Then a southdown air intake on the top(ebay), its better than a mushroom as you'll get plenty air in it on the road and just turn it round off road.:D
I cant find the pics but they were on here some where.
Inside you just need some flexi pipe (ebay) through the hole in the wing where the old plastic intake was and then connect up to the filter box. Buy a K n N filter to put in there and fanny's your aunt:sly
Cut through the wing with a hole cutter simples:cool:
BUT for sex appeal go extreme:naughty
Cheap as chips and totally neat;)
