I have tried asking around and besides excellent performance and acceleration, I still have the problem of fairly heavy grey smoke when revving at a standstill, decelerating and generally easing off the gas, going downhill etc, especially between 5th & 4th and 4th & 3rd!
Changed MAF, (greatly improved performance), found mini filter in Banjo Bolt to pump and removed, Cleaned out Air intake and breather system to Turbo.
Disconnected breather from Air intake! New Air Filter, New Fuel Filter.

Anybody got any idea's ????????????????????????????????????

Jusyt how bad is it??? mines quite smokey at times but never caused a problem other than sooting up anything I tow.

No EGR fitted.

Re Smoke:
It's very embarrasing when anyone behind has slam brakes on and retire to 100 yards to get clear vision!!!!!!!!
Yes, it's very bad, just gusts out a cloud each time I take my foot off the gas.
If I rev up at the lights, anyone behind doesn't know the lights have changed to green for 20 minutes!

I'm going to try some Fuel Treatment tomorrow, the type you only use every 10,000 miles.
Hopefully it might unstick something or clear some grub from somewhere!

How many miles has it done?

Not heard of it being a problem on these engines (or any come tothat for years now) but valve stem oil seal/valve guides worn.

Hows th eoil level does it need topping up now and again?

I used to have a Mk1 escort that smoked big time on the over run though lack of manifold vacumn on a diesel should mean yours shouldn't do this . Though on the other hand mine seems to shut off all fuel supply on over urn in higher gears, so the lack of fuel to assist combusting and burning oil could account for it I suppose possibly.

firstly is it actually using oil ? do you need to keep topping it up ?

my vote is the engine breather blocked like the one on top of the rocker cover on a td , now i don't know where it is on a tdi , you will have to ask someone like hummingbird as he knows most things and is very helpful

the second one i would try is air, turbo and fuel hoses for splits (look very closely and bend the hoses),,, when i have smokey engines its normally a split fuel line sucking air in causing smoke from a too rich mix of fuel and air , sometimes not enough to make it run bad either , in fact it can run better for short while,

another option would be run some injector cleaner through it, you can get a 2 part cleaner.

i forget the make but you get the diesel treatment and a can of egr valve cleaner spray. will look it up for you and add to post

anyway thought you had sold it
