Something I have noticed in my 2001 T2 2.7D is it is slow to warm up. And the heating is even slower.

I know they are big lumps, but is this normal? Expecially the heating which is very slow and only luke warm... gets there eventually but slow.

Was thinking perhaps the system needs a winter flush out.

Mine is quite slow to heat up as well, just thought it was because it is a diesel... :? :?

Would that effect the heater side of things?? thought they would be independent of each other..

Probably wrong again..but that's why i paid my tenner...

Mine is slow to heat up but I put it down to the block being cast iron (I think it is :? ) & not alloy as the pinto engine & A serise engines i've had were the same :?

could be your thermostats stuck open bung bitove card infront rad itll heat up quicker exsperiment as you dont want to much heat build up!

Mine too is slow to heat up, there are previous threads regarding this and the solution seems to have been fit an 88 degree thermostat instead of the standard 82 degree which is fitted to our trucks. I have never done this as I'm not too sure about the cooling in summer. Also check your pollen filter, see the workshop on changing this.
The Air con wont alter the warming up of either the engine or the cabin heater, however it does help to keep the windows clear of mist.

jace is right ours was very slow to heat up and it turned out thermostat and housing needed changing (see the thread on this), now the guage goes up quickly and the heaters work well, change it before it causes any more problems!

Sorry Plank but why do you have to change the housing :?: Mine is fitted with the alloy housing & in the summer heats up ok but has slowed down now its getting cold

I drive a 56 plate trani at work and it takes even longer than my T2 so i won't be touching anything...lol
For a diesel it's fine by me!
Air con does work really well to stop the window misting up though, and the Heated seats are a god send!!

on my old s plate trannie i used to cover 90-95% rad without overheating mate used to work at maxi haulage was workshop manager he used to take fans of dis stop lads moaning about frostbite lol

I only changed the housing because it was so coroded it split removing it, i have changed others thermostats with no issues so you probably wont need to! but a genuine nissan thermostat is only £10 and it is easy to remove and test.

These vehicles seem to have a bit of a weakness for cooling system faults so I would definatley as aminimum test the thermostat and flush system and add new coolant, particularly if you have no knowledge of it having been done (properly) recently, a few quid for a bit of piece of mind!

As often a slow warm up is a sign of the themostat sticking, my answer was aimed a boggert rather than those happy with their vehicles obviously and the hosings are all alloy as far as i know hence the rotting and corrosion problems, a steel one would probably be better!

You've either driven some very expensively engined pinto and A series powered cars or you're a bit mixed up there Neil, they are both most definitely cast iron bloocked, though there have been after market alloy blocks available for both over the years. Roy Millingtons one for the Pjnto is somewhat pricey, but its cheaper than a BDG block I suppose.

When did you last flush your radiator out?
It could be the heating system blocked or gunked up with rust etc..or the thermostat which could be jam open with crud or stuffed.

So flush the coolant system with the heat open on full hot , refill and make sure you bleed it by giving it a good run with the heater still on full before you close the heater down.

Thatks Guys...

It appears to be a normal Terrano thing... What I have noticed is it is slow to warm up, but gets there eventually so possilbly I'll start with a flush of the system, I wouldn't hurt to do that as it is winter.

I have do everything on mine but its still slow to warm up at least 4miles to get up to normal working temp.
my van has a coolant heater that is a seperate diesel powered heater that boosts the temp up very fast and is ment to be more fuel effecient than heating it up with just the engine its also ment to come on automatically if the coolant temp drops below -10 to stop the engine freezing up I am looking into wiring this up to a timer so that it comes on 1/2 hour before i go to work so that it is all defrosted and warm ready to drive.

Sorry HB I did'nt put all the words in I should have  The head works faster than the hands & I'm also dislexic  so sorry to everyone for the confusion
What I ment to say was that the pinto had a cast iron block & was slow to heat up compaired to say a zetec engine which is alloy if I remember right

normal road driving to work in the early hours takes 10 to 15 mins to warm up depending on how quick i drive and how late ive got up -rotfl-
