Had someone look over the Mav today as was finally going to re MOT it!! After doing lots of small needy jobs had neglected to check sills and they are well gone!! Any ideas on what sort of money it will cost to repair? Or weather its worth repairing? Not been using it as had the use of a van. The inner sill drivers side is terrible, looked ok but when it was pressed on inside it basically collapsed, seems to travel a fair way down car frontwards, passenger side is not as bad but still needs some work! Both outers also need sorting! Any advice appreciated.
Rich

Box section sills think makeitfit did them on his maverick.

Cheers Gav

assuming the inner sill (the important bit) is ok, then as Gavin says, chop off the old outer sill, and box section.

I thought the box section fix replaces both the inner and outer at the same time.

Think I'll have to box mine for next mot.

Or slap on some filler an see if they notice :lol

I'm guessing that box section will count as a 'modification' for insurance purposes? Fine for one with modded insurance already. I believe that 5dr MkIII fiesta sills are the nearest match to the outer sills, presumably with a touch of fettling with a subtle lump hammer. Inner sills are fairly flat sheet if I recall so shouldn't be too hard to weld up.

That's what I'm hoping as mine has serious tin worm in the sill area too and I'm on standard boring insurance.

Ouch! That's a bit spendy for a lump of steel! Think I'll play with Fiesta ones, they're nearer the £20 mark!

well i was thinking of someone on here had the right machinery, they could buy one as a template :naughty

Thanks for the advice guys, but what sort of money are we talking? I have never welded and for that reason don't have access to a welder! Clivvy, inner sill is as bad as outer one!!
Rich..

there is an inner, a middle, and the outer section that you can see, if serious rot then the best bet is cut out the rot and use a cut to length scaffold poll and weld it in, no MOT inspector can fail that, Rick

scaffold pole haha. genius :clap

Be aware if the scaffold poles are galvanised then they can give off poisonous fumes when welded.:doh

best regards,

Rustic

you are correct cyanide gas I am told, but I been welding galv for 30 plus years and I am still here, maybe I should be dead but hey ho no I am still around, seems a bit like green thinking, a lot of balls, Rick
