I have been milling around under the car I noticed that the exhaust had a bit of movement, on closer examination, I found it in half just by the flex joint at the bottom of the down pipe.
I also found the rear prop shaft UJ is in a very bad way, one lug is almost out of it's holder, so plenty of play.
The car was MOT'd at the end of February and has done less than 100 miles since, I'm no MOT tester but that should not have passed like that, should it??
Can anyone tell me if the rear prop shaft is the same between the 2.7 and 3.0, Thanks

Take the car back to the MOT place, im sure they will be happy to rip the MOT up for you.

An MOT is a visual check, they not suposed to pull, hit or tug anything to see if its had it. They will poke around rust though, this is why if you use body filler before a test it will pass, but use it after it will fail again as they will want to see the welding.

No, it's a bit more than visual check, they have to test certain items, like bearings for play and the exhaust has to be gas tight, this one certainly wasn't.

Garages charges a good price to do a yearly safety test on a vehicle this garage obviously didn't, I will contact VOSA on Monday and see what they have to say

Are you mad? Give me his address I'm going there for my next test
£40 for a test and a pass seems fine to me. I mean if he'd spotted it then you'd have failed and then have to fix it anyway and then go back etc etc

I wouldn't mind if I wanted a dodgy MOT, but I bought this car with a years ticket, the bent shite even charged the last owner for a new cv boot and the old split one is still in place.
Is it a DIY job to change the UJ on these by the way

It is certainly worth contacting the appropriate authorities, ie VOSA as shown on the MOT certificate or even go back to the garage and negotiate the repair for a very low price...

Might be worth getting the AA or RAC to inspect it, what other things have they missed.:doh

I paid £30 for front down pipe from ebay, place in Leeds so i pick it up to save on post.

Glen ps kwick fit wanted £130.

I had noticed some vibration while driving the car and I hope it is the UJ that's causing it.
Also found the rear drop link joint has play in it, so I will change this as well.

Cheers Plank, Milners exhaust parts are cheaper than ebay but the ebay drop link is cheapest.Will also phone around in the morning, ebay don't list a UJ for the 3.0 so unless I get lucky tomorrow, Milners have it.

A rear drop link with some slight play, is at least an advisory.
I would certainly test the efficiency of the brakes, hand brake, as these trucks tend to pick up the front wheels under heavy braking when no abs is fitted.

it might be the actual stud that has the torx head, I think the 3nuts are standard, poss M8, so a 13mm AF socket.
Well it is on the 2.7td anyway.
