Just popping up to say hello,I've bought myself a 2001 Terrano 2.7tdi just to tow my caravan
Serviced it yesterday and I can honestly say it's the worse position ever in world history to hide an oil filter,what were they thinking ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก
I'm sure to pop up again asking many stupid questions so please be kind ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Would recommend you try yoga for a few months before you attempt it mate,get a bit suppleness into your arms/wrists/shoulders ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†
 
Piece of p!55, take the wheel off and use a filter wrench from the wing!

Wheel off thats a good idea as its a pain in the you know what doing it from the top of the engine bay

I had to buy a bad of that oil absorbing stuff and jet wash underneath when I'd finished ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Will take the wheel off next time ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ
 
Also much easier if you have done a body lift as it gives you a much bigger gap between the inner wing and the chassis to get your arm in.
 
I always think that the designer of the Terrano had had an argument with the mechanics when he worked on it, as things like the oil filter, and the turbo are definitely designed just to wind up the person working on them...

To be honest, after the second time I did a filter change on mine, and poured oil all over the running gear and driveway, I justified the 2" body lift... much easier now...
 
Did my homework before the filter change last year, and removed the wheel and the mud flap. No spillage :)

They're great aren't they, the ol' 3.0ltr trucks?

Loads of power, refinement, easy access to service parts.

No mucking about with gadgets and gizmos to try and get enough power to get up a hill.

We are a lucky lot us 3.0 blokes.

I thought I'd ask a question here, rather than start a new thread.

It's a proper newbie question, so apologies in advance. I've plucked up the courage to do my first service on my 98 Terrano II 2.7 tdi, but I just want to double double double check which oil I need.

I hope I'm not opening a can of worms or reigniting any old debates or anything, but I look one place or thread and it says 10/ 40 semi syn and another will say 15/ 40 semui syn. Comma oils say one thing, Halfords another etc.

Opie oils on here say 10/40 and chuck in a filter with a 10 per cent discount which is looking pretty good to me, but I just want to make sure I get the grade right before I order anything.

I don't even know if it makes that much difference tbh, but just thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance for any help. Oh, and if anyone has any links to a decent filter removal tool to save me getting and breaking several rubbish ones of ebay that'd be appreciated too...:bow
 
i have always 10/40 mineral based oil as i found semi snthetic made mine smoke more:thumb2
 
Thanks RJL, another option, lol. I'm getting the impression that it doesn't really matter between the grades and it's a kind of 'trial and error' process and see what's best for your individual vehicle.

I was going to get a kit from opie oil on here, but I found a thread last night where they don't seem to respond to any queries other than posting the same 'give us a ring or visit our website' stock response. Has anyone here dealt with them? Are they good?
