OK, so Mav has been "Off the Road" for a few weeks whilst attempting welding repairs, I finally got it all back together and tried to start it up.
However it took ages and numerous attempts to get it to tick over.
I took it for a run of a couple of miles and it seemed to clear.
I thought the Fuel filter may need changing after standing so I changed that and run car again, no problems.
BUT, this morning I had the same trouble, it took ages turning it over before she fired up and then run like crap!
I took it for another short run and seems ok again now.

Anyone any idea's? I've not had problems with running or starting since sorting out the starter problem.

did you have a look at the condition of the fuel lines especially under the drivers side rear arch area?

Are the glow plugs working? they do an initial hot heat and then remain on a lower heat for several minutes. Did you disconnect the battery to do the welding?

Yes, took battery off car totally.
Glow Plug light comes on and goes off after a few seconds, I'm assuming that means they're working?

running rough

I had that once. It was my fuel filter was not tightened up properly.
It's worth a check.

Changed Fuel Filter first off, just in case!
Just tried it again, it was hard to start again, strange it goes ok when it finally warms up!

Glow plugs aren't a bad call either to be fair

Get someone to turn the key while your under the bonnet and check voltage at the plugs and on the rail

Nah the light doesn't tell you if they are actually working. Theres a thumping great relay at side of the battery next to the inner wing. Also look at top of engine at the front and you'll find some cable connectors. One of those connectors is for the glow plugs. Then there is the actual rail that connects the glow plugs together.

did you fully prime the fuel filter BEFORE starting the car?

I know nuffin ... but id guess a glow plug problem ..... either one or more plugs down

once its warmed up , if you turn the ign off and straight back on again ..... does it fire up ok ?

Think I got it sorted, fingers crossed!
A wire on the relay next to battery was green and knackered connection.
Cut wire, re-made off and re-connected, went first turn!
Wait for morning to find out properly!

Thanks for everyones suggestions.

Started first turn at 06;00 this morning.

Why scrap it? A bit of rot is nothing and will sell on ebay as spares/repair for more...
