morning everyone just wandering if anyone would know what a very low rumbling noise on cornering and also when coming to a stop on brakes would be ,i mean its very low noise but im good at hearing these things ,anyone else being in the car would probably say theres no noise ,
so any ideas what this might be the first signs of so i can check before damage is done ,it seems to come from the front wheels but its probably only hearable from inside car and it is a very low rumbling as if when youre tyres a bit flat that kind of rumbley but a bit lower ,:thumbs

the wheel bearings i think r fine on front as its just passed mot and before mot i checked and nipped them up a notch to tighten and were fine

Front or rear? If the latter worth changing LSD oil if you haven't? It causes all sorts of funny things when it goes off.

it sounds like the front its its on cornering slowly and just as youre coming to astop but i ve noticed when you take it out of gear and freewheel /coaster no rumble

Have you checked to see if the front props have disengaged from four wheel drive properly :augie

then lift the front, Then turn the front prop. The front wheels should not turn.

so i reverse two meters then jack it up and what way do i turn the prop so that the wheel sgo forward ? excuse me im thick :nenau

good point actually, as the hubs would lock again.

someone else will suggest a better way.

I had strange noises from mine that were solved by greasing the break shoes where they rub on the back plate, I tried everything else first and that fixed it :thumb2

I checked my front hubs by jacking one wheel at a time & turning the wheel, on the assumption that if the hub was locked I would not be able to turn the wheel?!:doh

that makes sense :thumb2i thinl ill give that a go when the rain gives up :augie

OOOPS not quite right guys
The front has open diff so even in four wheel drive you can still turn one wheel , but the prop will turn with it.
So leave it in 2 wd , and just reach under the front and turn the prop by hand. it should be a bit stiff but turn all the same:thumb2
If it wont turn then your hubs are locked on.
Strip down and clean will prob sort.:thumbs

Failing all that, see if you can get any movement in the CV joints. They can behave a bit oddly on these trucks as regards failing noises.

many thanks , just one more thing how are we gonna make the rain stop (open air garage AKA driveway+rain+cold=not good )

Been there, got the wet T shirt.... Now I have the Mav in a nice warm garage, part of the house, in fact it's 8 feet from where I am sitting.
No ! the wife hasn't parked it in the lounge... :doh :lol :lol

Propshaft U/J's.Will be more noticable on over-run or when delivering hard on the power. When they get really bad, they cause the whole car to shake!

There may also be a clunk when first taking up the drive ie when you let the clutch out, or change gear.

The other thing that might conceiveably be causing it is a sticking brake caliper....?
