The other thing that might conceiveably be causing it is a sticking brake caliper....?

That reminds me, could be the sliding pins on the front calipers, these often sieze, but can usually be removed, cleaned up, greased and refited quite easily, and a no cost solution. I like these types of repairs. :thumbs Common issue.
