Its been discussed before in connection with reverse sensors but I am now seriously considering a reversing camera.

Does anyone have one fitted? any recomendations or keep away from advice?

Ive had a Pathfinder to play with for the last week and its the best gadget ever , makes parking it up and presumably hitching up a piece of piss (its about the only thing on the pfinder I'd get excited about but thats another story :naughty )

Bloody hell!!! thats more than I wanted to pay :D

I noticed their cameras are £20 odd, the same or better on ebay are about a tenner so I suspect it'll be a lot cheaper than that :thumb2

well you did ask...

im sure ebay could come up with the goods for half that

Cheaper camera's may get burnout images when it's very bright or may not work in the dark.

What does that mean jim? I have already had one chap extolling the virtues of a £75 lcd screen against a £30 ccd (i think) screen :nenau

One plus point i have to give the pathfinder is the screen is v good quality so i presume its lcd, dont really know :doh

for what its worth , im convinced it is either ..

( a ) a earthing issue

(b) a wiring /shorting problem with the fuel pump

i have a durite lcd on my transit lwb high top van , with two cameras one looks at hitch other in to distance, about £200 .good in dark and sunlight ,you only get what you pay for!

Think the CCD is the detector inside the camera.

Burntout image means that the image will be all white with no detail because the light source is too bright for the camera to cope. Friend of mine bought one of the very cheap Wireless CCTV camera's which did just that. Also the cheaper ones don't work very well or at all in low light conditions. That's all I know about those cheaper camera's.

i had a 7 Inch In-Dash Motorized TFT LCD Car Video Monitor with a cheap ebay 9 IR LED Night Vision Rear View Reversing colour Camera.

the rear view was fantastic and at night it would work in the darkest of places as it picked up any light at all like reverse light some people i heard fit a rear spot.

it was so simple to fit one lead direct to monitor under carpet the other to a 12v source and optional but i fitted a wire thought the gearbox housing and clipped to reverse sensor, but you could just run a lead to the reverse light if wanted.

i fitted mine into the spare wheel cober centre hole it was great driving along with it on watching it (sorry meant when parked up lol)

:naughty I did wonder if it was worth just having it switched on rather than reverse triggered

reverse trigger only come into play if like mine it was playing music/tv/dvd but you could also override and already have it on the reverse camera channel.

i have a 57 plate xtrail as a company car/van.
never use camera for reversing, dont trust it, dont know why, just not nataural, you lose alround vision whilst staring at camera.
but for hitching up, it is fantastic, i would have it just for that alone, people look as i hitch trailer in awe that it drops on first go, never let on about camera.

I agree, test drove a squashhikwai with a reverse cam, the novelty wore off after about 250mS!!! Didn't trust it and looked out of the rear window!!
Went over the road and ordered an Insignia SRi tourer instead!!

This place is as good as any.

CCD cameras tend to be a bit better than the CMOS type, you ideally need a camera angle of at least 120 degrees to give a wide enough field of view depending on where you intend mounting it.
I buy my monitors from the above site but get cameras from a different place because you can order lenses(different angles) to suit the application.
If you don't fancy having another white light showing rearwards for reversing in the dark, just buy some infrared plastic sheet(in the region of 800 to 850nm) off ebay and cobble it on somehow, the only thing visible will be a red glow from the lamp itself, no beam visible, but the camera will see it.

:thumb2 thanks. The IR bit is interesting.

Ive had a look at that place. He sells the wireless bridges for non wireless cameras. I am considering putting one in the back window of the caravan :thumb2
