Has anyone done this? I can't see it being very challenging and I'd like to think I'm pretty electrically competent.

I'd like to fit a 2nd one into the bottom of the centre console below the little cubby hole rear of the handbrake (im sure you all know where I mean)

I was thinking of trying to grab a front one and then just extending the cable and routing it under the plastics, just wondering where I should run the power from as I don't really want to go piggybacking off the front one and draw too many amps

if you piggyback from the original just make sure to remember you can't pull too big loads from both the same time.

But for usual stuff like phone chargers etc it's fine.

I ran a feed direct from the battery for extra cig lighter sockets.

Where did you mount them or did you just leave them free, also wont running them straight from the battery induce battery drain?

I had them in the glove box.

It would have the same drain piggy backing from the original cig lighter plug. Power comes from the same place the alternator when running or if the engine is not running the battery

i just piggie backed them, i got one in the boot, and one in back of centre consol

I think I have as I take pics whenever I do a good mod to my truck. I'll possibly get pics up tonight if I find them if not, tomorrow:thumb2

I have 2 permanent live ones in the boot, one on each side, run directly from the battery via a fuse using 30amp cable, plus a 3rd one that uses a split charger relay again via 30amp cable straight from the battery via a fuse, for either running the cool box off of, or charging a spare battery when camping.

In the Dash, I removed the ashtray, and made a chequer plate panel up, where I fitted a 3way socket next to the original cigarette lighter, giving me 4 in the dash. These 3 were again run via a fuse directly from the battery with yet again, 30amp cable.

I put all the cables in when I was also running the power etc for the tow bar, and used the trunking that conveniently runs along the passenger side of the car just under the matting.

I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow.

that's where i put extra cables in for my sub and rear power, i also took the trunking out of my scrap terrano and put it in on the right hand side too, as all holes are their for if it was a left hand drive....the loom would be on the right side, bassically mirrored

mine allready hasone in theboot and one in the back of cetre console! the one in the boot is permanently live , as Fez suggests, and it is standard factory fit. It is very usefull having permanent live!

Exactly what I'm after :D

That's just overkill lol, I bet you've got less plug sockets in your house!!!

:D

I needed one for the GPS, one for the land meter, one for the hand spotlamp and one to charge the phone at the front, and the ones at the rear run the coolbox, charge the spare caravan battery and one left over for the air pump, yellow roof beacons or any other things I need to plug in.

These are the ones I fitted into the front...

Dear Lazy-Ferret,

You're led idea had just been..err.... Stolen by a user named 96terrano. He thought it's so simple but effective that he's probably going to coppy it

Ahhhh.. but if you really want to copy it, and save yourself a mint in the process, you need to know the following....

The LED's are from 3 USB lights available in the Poundshop. It's a flexible shaft with a USB plug on one end, and 5 or 6 LED's in a plastic housing at the other, designed to create a light over your keyboard on a laptop.

They are already on a mini PCB, with all the resisters etc fitted, but are designed to run on 5 volts... They even have a little template (the reflector) to help you set the holes correctly.

Now you need to get your 5 volts... well guess what, also from the pound shop is a 12v cigarette plug which converts to a USB connector.

When taken apart, a bit of soldering, and some Araldite to hold it all in place, it all combines to make the perfect set of LEDs for the dash, for the grand total of £4, plus a bit of work.
