Hi Folks,

The glass on my passenger side mirror is cracked and needs replacing. The cat is a Mk1 Maverick SWB GLX 2.7TD with electric mirrors. I've found a source for the stick on glass type here:

http://www.toys4cars.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4566_4581_6191&products_id=42030

or what I assume is the cradled replacement type here:

http://www.wingmirrorman.co.uk/ford maverick wing mirror glass.html

Is there any downside to simply sticking the new sheet over the old broken glass?

If I need to take the glass and cradle out do I have to take the whole assembly off the car?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Dave

Sticking straight on to the busted glass is probably fine to be honest, so long as the electrical adjustment still works ... the servos inside the mirror have small plastic locating lugs on that can get broken if the mirror took a hard whack...in that case a complete second hand mirror is your only cost-effective option (around £40 if you watch eBay carefully).

From memory, I think getting the old mirror glass out isn't difficult (in fact you can remove the whole wing mirror easily if its easier to work on - just remove the door card (4-5 screws and a number of poppers, remove the small triangular internal cover (sometimes has a tweeter speaker in it) to reveal the three fixing bolts - electrical connector is behind the door card.

The problem is you need to then buy a kosher Nissan replacement that has the necessary plastic bit on the back (its glued on to the glass and impossible to remove in one piece) to locate to the servo lugs for the electrical adjustment....

Cheers, I'll have a quick look at the extent of the damage tonight.

Thanks

Dave

Hi
there's no need to to take off door mirror ,remove broken glass (carefully) this is held in a plastic frame once the glass is out you will see the plastic tabs that hold the frame in put new glass in frame and press home. nice easy job.

Sounds perfect. Cheers! I'll check and see whether it's heated tonight (don't think so) and order some glass.

Thanks

Hi Davehuck,

Not White colour coded is it by any chance?

Mav.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi Mick,

'fraid not it's black.

Cheers

Dave

Don't be offended Davehuck, but on a 93 truck are you worried? If so, I'm sure Makeitfit will mail you a tin of black spary paint - think he bought a job lot somewhere...A new one is in three figures with all the parts (elec motors etc..)!

As long as the motor works on the current one all I need to do is replace the glass. Definitely the path of least resistance :)

Cheers

Dave
