Done some work on my baby today and notice both outer cv boots have just split :(

Are these stretchy ones with the cone anygood ?

I presume I just, remove the caliper, remove the track rod, top bj out, bottom bj out, remove circlip, pull hub out the way and off the drive shaft ?

How does the cv joint come off the shaft btw ?

you have to remove the whole shaft, then while you hold the shaft in one hand with the CVJ facing down, strike the CVJ with a heavy soft faced hammer fast and hard the CVJ will come off the shaft, allowing the boot change, it needs equally hard bang to refit the shaft to the CVJ, I put it in the vice and drive it on, I do not think you can get enough grip and hammer swing with it in the car, if others can say different I will listen, makeitfit comes to mind, the shaft is held with a circlip which compresses via a champher in the CVJ, Rick

Ok mate sound

I used to hold the circlip type up in the air whilst the gearbox end was still attached, then just knock em off, but If you say that's a no go then so be it :)

the way I see it, is with the shaft still on the diff end it is hard to stop the spider coming out and a bearing ring dropping off, then you have to sort the inner gaiter as well, if you can find a way of holding the shaft and at the same time enough space to give the hammer a good swing then maybe, I in my old age cannot do it, Rick

Thats like the kit I used on mine, went on OK but be careful with the clips as the metal there made off is like putty.... I was overzelous trying to get them to be tight and they snapped!
Went to motor factors in Longton and bought set of new clips much better quality
Boots have been on 12 months and so far no probs.

Do you just wrap the baler twine up and down the cv joint and around the shafts to form a cone ?

nope stick the boot in hot water to soften then take out bucket, put both bits of baler twine thru both holes, place one on the right side & the other on the left & pull sideways to widen.

.....sound like someone's dream fetish......... :jesterbg
