I'm considering removing the tow bar on my T2 as I'll never have any use for it. Just wondering how easy/difficult it's likely to be to get off, and what do I do with the electrics etc?
Even though I don't use mine I have left it on, it gives some protection to the back of the car in the event of someone rear-ending you!I'm considering removing the tow bar on my T2 as I'll never have any use for it. Also remember that the rear towing hook gets removed when they fit the towbar, so if you take the towbar off you have nothing to connect to should you ever need dragging backwards.

No thats not right. When the towbar is fitted nothing gets removed the towbar actually covers the towing points up.So when its removed you get them back not loose them
Oh that's handy :thumbs
I have little confidence the towbar will pass the MOT next May - highly doubt it'll have that new reversing beeper thingy installed and I can't be doing with all that faff myself. That and I simply prefer it without. Would rather just get rid personally
Are towbars now part of the MOT test... That I did not know. What's the criteria for them to fail?
Regards
Alan

On my one, there was a proper Pig tail at the back, Just like the front, and it used the holes the towbar bolts into, so had to come off. There are also the strapping down points, which the side plates obscure on some towbars, but I was told that they should never be used for towing, as they are not strong enough.
Reversing buzzer.. really? Mines a fail then. Just has the indicator beeps.

I thought the 7 pin plugs were not tested even on the new mot requirements?
Good advice - I have to do that every year with my bullbar and spots, not legal in Spain unless they came fitted from the factory (and they're shown on the Spanish version of the V5).For those bothered about MOT and tow bars, just take the bugger off for mot day and bolt it back on after
Best off for off roading anyway or else you spend all day ploughing :lol
