Removing stubborn side steps

Had a look at removing the side steps from my LWB at the weekend, but the bolts are impossible to undo. The hubby is a strong bloke but he couldn't shift any of them. 10 years has obviously got them well stuck! :doh

Any recommendations for what to try next? :nenau

Put some "Plus Gas" on the bolts/nuts, the instructions how to use it are on the can.:thumbs
Also a long breaker bar on the socket will give more leverage.

Failing all other attempts, the angle grinder is the tool of choice!:augie

Yup angle grinder is what i used when i repaired mine.

Out of curiosity, are you taking them off to replace them with something else eg. rocksliders?

Just asking as I do plan to replace mine with rocksliders at some point in the future but in the meantime, although they get scraped/bashed/de-rubberised :augie I've always thought they were a far more attractive prospect for damage than my sills, so they've stayed put! (They're pretty much level with the chassis anyway so reckon affect on clearance is marginal)

Well I am surprised, what do you call strong? I just taken the OS off of my TDi to facilitate welding sills and the bolts that would not budge, just gave em a bit more grunt and they sheared easy, and I am no spring chicken, if you were nearer I would do it for you, Rick

Yep ive taken loads off back ones normaly ring off others should undo i use hexagonal socket and 2' ratchet think a few more shredded wheat are in order here:lol

try tightening them, saves getting the grinder out! this jap metal shears easier than a banana skin (ive done the ball joints,rust all the way thru each bolt on an 03 plate,mickey mouse metal!). 5lb pressure should do it...

thanks rick :thumb2 , i have a couple of concerns about the new motor .... the 20k a year limit and the fact it will be crap in the snow i guess , even tho it has traction control .

traction control is balls all it does is apply braking force to the spinning wheel so the other drives more , anyway you have a motor which for the most part keeps you mobile, the world is not perfect, regards, Rick

I had to hammer the socket on mine, even then half of them sheared & I one really stubbon bugger that really doesn't wanna do nowt but round so that'll be a job for angela(grinder):thumb2
