ive recently joined nissan 4x4 and purchased a 1995 mistral to tow my swift danette which laden weighs about 1060kg
i was a little disapointed when ive just been away with them both for the first time mistral performed great on the flat but when it came to a hill it seem to be up and down the gears and struggling with minor hills not sure if some of it was pilot error
but have now noticed there is a metal pipe under the servo looks like a gearbox overflow pipe maybe im not sure hope someone can help it appears to be leaking atf from it whilst i was towing but i am noticing there seems to be far to much fluid in the box weigh past the max mark on the stick
when is the best time to check the fliud level and is it with the car hot or cold and in park or drive??
im going to change the fluid tomorow any ideas wot they hold roughly and is there a filter to clean if so where is it located ??
also could the kickdown cable need adjusting
help ....
or am i expecting to much from it with my caravan?

thanks sorry about the length of this

Hi Lee welcome to the club, I bought a Swift Challenger and was dissapointed with the towing ability of my Mistral, I found that when I hit a hill it would drop a gear then drop another gear when it didnt need to, (roaring its head off) when I eased off the gas it would go up a gear but then go up another and would not pull, Back to putting foot down again to keep it going. (20 MPG pulling van around the Highlands) .

My gearbox oil is a bit high also.

Check your oil when its hot. If you check the Forums you will find the Info you need. Check here to get you started.
