Rear wiper driving me crazy

My rear wiper is driving me crazy.

Backstory - arm was missing when I bought it, as PO had obviously seen beginning of problem and removed it. Basically, the rear wiper goes. All the time. When the ignition is on and the engine started.

Get in the car and put the key in - nothing. Turn to acc position - nothing. Turn ignition on - nothing. Start the engine - it starts and won't stop for love nor money.

Changed the relay - no difference. Took the cover off and test-lit the plug on the motor - two lives. Disconnected the small plug on the wiper stalk - kept going. Disconnected the big plug on the wiper stalk - kept going. (No other wiper functions, front or back - worked).

Now very confused.

Took the relay out and tested the pins. All off, pins 3 and 4 live, 2 has a 'small' live (dim test lamp). Ignition on - pin 2 goes bright like others.

Can anyone shed any light? Would be really useful to be able to use the rear wiper - almost no visibility out the back in the rain on the motorway.

is this on a T2?

I was just looking at the wiring diagram, and it does not even show a relay for the wipers...

It shows a feed off of fuses 18 and 21, 18 being the feed to allow the wiper to self park, and 21 being the feed that goes to the switch to turn the wiper on and off and intermittent.

Try pulling fuse 18, and see if it stops, if it does it is most likely the self park switch built into the wiper motor. This is a switch that keeps power to the wiper motor, after you have switched it off, to allow it to return to the parked position, but if it is jammed on, then the wiper will run all the time the ignition is on.

Sorry - should have said - it's a '95 Mistral which is a T1?

Having said that, I will try pulling 18 and see what happens.
