Rear door hinge

Just been to Nissan to get price for hinge pin for tailgate door to be told they can't supply pin only the complete hinge to which i thought here we go and expected them to say that will cost you 50/60 quid. I nearly had cardiac arrest when the nice chap said it will cost £101 plus vat.
Not sure what im going to do now because the pin in lower hinge has worn badly so until sorted think i better leave spare wheel off back door and hope i dont get puncture:lol.
Does anyone have any ideas for a fix. Thanx in anticipation:bow:bow:bow

Had the same problem with my Toyota.Removed the hinge and had a local engineering fellow replace the pin.Total cost £15.I Gave it to him Friday and had it back Monday.

That seems an idea, find a pin of the right size first, then drill out the hinge to suit the pin.

I assume it has to be a hardened pin.
There should be plenty of hinge pins about.

Would the shank of a drill bit be suitable, maybe too brittle?
Plenty of broken drills in my tool box.:nenau
Indent the bottom of the hinge to stop the pin from dropping out.

You need to consider safety regarding the pin, as the door needs to stay with the car in case of an accident. The original design would have been tested.

Pin must not be too hard as it will then wear the actual hinge away.The idea is to make the pin to fit and then tap it in.A small collar at the top will stop it going right through.
