Hi Guys , haven't been on for a while. All summer I have been out on the bike most of the week ends and travelling a lot .
However the other day one of the linings striped off a rear shoe so I have been doing the rear breaks for the first time this weekend.
Now when I removed the first set of shoes, the offending part bellow appeared as if from nowhere so when I removed the other side I took particular care to see where it went , but again it seemed to just appear?,I have no clue !,
It is in the workshop Manuel as a Pawl ? . So!
Is it necessary part ? will it's removal affect the working of the break ? Where exactly dose it go and how do you get it in

Cheers Thomas, if Rick says bin it ,I know I can bin it ;) Load off !
Also one of the hand break cables is seized ,any one know a way of freeing it.
I have been spaying penetrating oil down it and hanging it up to flow down, but no luck yet. may need to replace it ,any one got one ?

Hi John, it is part of the auto adjuster, on early motors with narrow shoes they never did work, later ones around 2000 on had modified rear brakes wider shoes and drums and the adjuster was modified as well and does work so if you have 55 mm wide linings you have the earlier brakes and can safely bin that part and its spring it did nothing anyway, if your linings are wider then it can work if you want to refit it, but it is not absolutely necessary, re the cable if you can free it off the way you are doing it by soaking in oil (helps I find to put one end in a vice then while applying tension on the other end try and slide the outer back and forth, Rick

Had a seized HB cable, ended up replacing the damn thing. And the brackets between the cable and the chassis, all mounting bolts were rotten.
