Have you tested for a live where the orange wire goes on at the ignition switch?

There have also been issues with worn ignition switches, which, often result in non starting, but maybe it could fail for the radio supply, but never heard about that fault though...:nenau

Sounds like the auxilliary position contact has failed. I suspect its the ignition switch.

radio ignition

will get that checked out thanks for the info
terrano starts fine no problem with ignition switch
had a problem with car not starting due to immobilizer when I took out old stereo car would not start just turned over got reset at Nissan Garage plus new key cost £190
could they have cut out power to the orange wire as they said they bypassed immobilizer or some-thing to that effect

Always look at what was done prior to a new fault occurring, and then there could be a link.

Worth contacting the Nissan garage, as they may have inadvertently introduced this fault, as they appear to be working in the same area.:nenau

A what point during this work did you notice the radio was faulty?
Was it ok before the Nissan dealer looked at it, and then not, after they did the work?

Can't you pick up another ignition fed live wire for something?

I know the newer stereos in the Terrano with the Hazard Switch integrated were tied to the NATS II system in some way which is why people have so many problems when removing them to fit aftermarket stereos

I just plugged the new stereo in and job done.
Was just the hazard switch I had to sort out which was also simple.
is a lot of spare wires which I assume are for the NATS system.

just find an alternative live from the ignition.
Also check the red and orange wires don't have to be swapped if using an iso connector as I have had to do this in the past with an aftermarket unit.
if you have fitting instructions it will tell you which cars this effects.

You could just run a perm live to behind the stereo & connect the stereo's perm live & ign live to it but you'll have to remember to switch the stereo off when you get out of the truck:augie
