Hi, my radio / CD has packed up in as much as when you put a cd in it won't release it although there is a whining sound as if it is attempting to release. However the radio works fine. Rather than trying to get it fixed I am looking to change it for a run of the mill unit from Halfords.

I have read a number of threads on here where some mention the need to replace the panel as the size is different, also about needing to change the wiring as the hazard warning is linked to the radio. However being as dumb as I am I still can't fathom it out.

The Terrano is a 2.7 2005 model. Looking at the photo below is it not a simple case of removing the plastic panel surrounding the radio / hazard warning switch, removing the screws holding the radio in place, unplugging the connections and replacing the unit, then the reverse to finish off?

Again I have looked at a few posts but I am still not too sure what to do.

(Notice the red heart covering the flashing light! - that's another story! - I have read the suggested solution but no luck there)

Any pointers appreciated :thumb2

You don't have any probs as you've got a normal single din stereo with the much wanted surround:clap:clap:thumbs Use a thin blade at the top of the black surround & carefully pry it away from the silver part of the centre dash & it will come free as it's only held in place by 4 plastic prongs, when unclip the hazard switch & you can remove the surround out of your way:thumb2 next there is 4 screws holding the stereo in place undo them & out it comes:D you will need an iso connection lead to go from your new stereo to the main wiring. depending on the stereo you are wanting to fit most can be fitted into the old Nissan stereo cage, mine didn't so had to trim the surround back to the little groove

Rip it all out you don't need none of that.
Make the remaining hole as big as possible.
And then see what you have to work with.
All you need is a rick switch for the hazard switch.

I had nothing to use as a facial plate.so I used a cheapo plastic chopping board.and covered it with a bit of leather

He doesn't need to plus it's the £100+ surround everyone wants:augie:lol You must have a SE or sport model I think going off the silver dash & the black trim ?

Heres a pic of mine so you can see a normal single din fits straight in:thumbs but my surround looks a bit different now as I vinyl wrapped it:augie

Many thanks everyone for the replies, much appreciated.:thumb2 Will go looking for a new radio/cd at Halfords tomorrow!

And also that official facia myself and sweety have is damned expensive, think nissan want about 110 quid ish

Alternatively you can just make your own. I guess your facia should be ok though as you have cd already :nenau

Yeah sorry my apologies you have the facia already, just remember to be gentle with it :lol

those facias are damned expensive so your lucky you have that type, the old type is a pain in the arse as the hazard switch is built into the radio making replacements a little more expensive

Cheers all. Just thought of something else. Would the controls on the steering wheel work when I replace the unit? Also where would I get the adaptor for the wiring . Would I need to get this off eBay or is this standard stuff that Halfords would stock? Thanks.

I'd also like to know the answer to that as I'd like to put my Pioneer from my Maverick into my new Terrano. Keeping the controls on the steering wheel would be ace!!!!

If you don't fancy an aftermarket one bud, I'll flog you mine cheap if you'd prefer to stick with the OEM stereo?

make sure you get everything ready before you take the old stereo out
when I did mine I had mine out about a week
then the immobiliser cut in the terrano would not start had to take to Nissan garage
they said the stereo if removed was like it got stolen and the immobiliser cuts in they took £90 to reset and £100 for new ignition key plus labour
Halfords sell the adapter just give them your details of your terrano 2 or 3 different types by the way
hope this helps

the control on the steering wheel does not work with the stereo I bought
it was a cheap one from Halfords it only had 3 connecters on the stereo
I think the original Nissan radio had about 12 or more connecters for speakers clock cd or radio ect
for the black red and orange wire and even at that I had to cross the red with the new live
a night mare if you get the chance of a good Nissan radio cd cheap go that way
but its what you pay for is what you get
I went the cheap way

I've got a Pioneer 6400 BT head unit from Halfords, has bluetooth and I've got the mic on the steering wheel column, also usb /ipod connector at rear of unit (not a fan of leads coming out the front) which I took cable down through dash and popped it up at the handbrake area, handy for lugging in, charging and using iphone. Also has a sd card slot as well as cd - you hold a s**t load of music on a sd card (just like having a HDD). Got a connector to the steering wheel control which fully works 100% too. Quite like how you can adjust illumination colour to match OEM lights / dials too. Well recommended.

Had a kenwood before, good headunit but the bluetooth was a separate unit instead of being built in and would loose communication / freeze sometimes.
