Jim,Paul, is it defo the switch? Don't expect the switch to latch on and then press again to unlatch cos it don't. Same with the bulbs in the switch they are quite common to go. Check fuses and find the relay as well.

What switch was you thinking off?? it as to be one that onlt makes contact while being pressed, hadn't thought doing about that till you said.
why would you want to do that toolbox?

Thats what I can't get my head round, wouldn't be able to use the one already fitted without not being able to use the heated rear window, only other way would be to use a timer to run the h/mirrors.not sure how much work is involved .It may need a thermal cut out in the circuit as well
