Hi lads and lassies,

Im looking to buy a van as a second work vehicle for my workers, have been looking at the 2lt peugeot expert atv seems decent enough but anyone had one/ any other recommendations?

Are peugeots as bad as theyre old rep used to be or have i made that up haha.

We have some Peugeot Boxers at work that we have on hire from Northgate.

In all honesty, you get what you pay for. They're plagued with electrical problems that just seem to come & go as they choose & no one can get to the bottom of.
They're not all that good to drive, I don't find them very user friendly.
None of the drivers like them & given the choice they'd have a Renault.

Our own fleet that we own are Renault Masters, can't really fault these.
Good on fuel & comfortable. So far proven to be quite reliable & when they do go wrong the parts aren't too expensive.
Mine is a 64 plate with 151,000 up it's arse & still going strong.

There is one thing about the Renaults that I don't like............. They have the turning circle of the QE2 :lol :lol

We have a 66 plate VW Sprinter with a box on the back on hire from Northgate. I personally hate it, I wouldn't want to drive it for any great distance...... Noisy, uncomfortable, under powered It spits diesel all over you when you fill it

Ford Transit Connect. High top. 1.8ctdi
Goes like a rocket, can take a pallet and sheets of 8x4.
The most trouble free van I've ever owned.
(Now that's gonna be the kiss of death having said that).

Haha thats it confirmed, i didnt think they were that great. Needs to be a van so 3 guys can fit in and tools but better on fuel as i have a job in fort william coming up and another far away one so looking to save fuel and get it liveried with company logos etc. Cheers again for the responses lads, appreciate it.

It's hard to beat a tranny mate, not the most glam but will fit 3 blokes and some 8x4 in easily, reliable and cheap to service etc, loads about.

davey boy, can you get full 8x4 sheets in there? it does not look that long a motor? what sort of mpg do you get out of the 1.8?

Some of the transit vans we use at work have selectable 4x4, it has proved very useful more than once, and I would imagine even more so with a decent set of AT's.
Although to be honest I have found the Renault vans which we also have (crew cab type) slightly more comfortable both as a passenger and driver. Probably more of a personal thing though than a criticism against the Transit.

Have seen a few 4x4 transits they do sound good but costing around 8k second hand which is a bit out of budget. Have had a mk7 transit before the terrano but it was not comfy after an hours driving and no idea how much worse it would have been in the passenger seat. Will check out some renaults thanks lads

Hey Rocky, sorry for late reply.
Yep full 8x4 sheets.
You load them from the rear RH corner to the front passenger corner.
The passenger seat folds away to allow this occasional stowage space.
Most materials i buy get delivered to site but just occasionally to be able to pick up some extra sheets of 8x4 stock is really handy.
If you want to carry three persons this is not the van for you.
Ive never worked out the MPG. But it doesn't make my wallet squeak like the big Renault I used to have.
As an extra bit of info, a sliding side door on any van is a must have in my opinion.
All the best with you final choice!:thumb2

I've got a new Citroën dispatch from help-link, it has twin sliding doors and the extra door makes all the difference, so much easier to get to things now and very easy to keep tidy, twin sliders highly recommended :thumb2

You lucky sod. That means you can put your ladders straight through leaving the rear doors clear and no need for a roof rack:clap

Cheers lads, im off next week to hunt down a suitable van the connect sounds good maybe just get less staff haha. Been to see a few caddy maxis that were nice but had things wrong with them. Will keep on hunting.

Is it a really bad idea to look at getting a patrol as i am budgeting 5k for a van and theres some really nice looking patrols for that money. my wallets already crying at the thought of running 2 4x4s though haha...

:naughty :naughty

Now you're talking!!!!! Patrol Commercial :naughty

The right colour with security tinted windows, awesome!
I've been doing a heap load of tip runs lately, and they are cavernous wagons when you want them to be.:thumb2
Before I settled on the Patrol I have, I was looking at a Trek S commercial.
Solid rear windows and a flat bed right through to the front seats. It had been used by a film production company for moving props etc. from studio to site.
In silver with black Blindo style wheels. Very smart.
Vendor was a knob though.

roofrack and liveried it could look incredible. Company image is key haha. Nobody wants to see another white van.

Davey boy, whats the trek s commercial? Who makes them? Sounds interesting...

Terranodoug, did they do a newer version with high roof or just pre 2000?
