I've read lots of posts on this subject and I really can't find a solution. I''ll describe the symptoms. Hope someone can help me !
It's constantly wandering to the left side of the road, unless the camber is quite steep to the right then it stays straight. I have to hold the wheel straight to make it go straight, if I let go it turns about 5 degrees left.
There is no resistance steering left until this point, however there is resistance immediately from straight when steering right.
Tyre's don't seem unevenly worn, all bushes, rubbers, etc feel tight, no movement in any arms, no movement from wheel bearings, calipers not sticking.
Buggered if I can work it out !:nenau

Tyre pressure
Tyre tread
Tyres the same tread pattern / make
Something bent :nenau steering idler

The bloke I bought it off

Is the steering idler the thing on the passenger side with a grease nipple on it ? I greezed it yesterday and it was nice and greezzey already. There's not one on the other side.

Tyres are all at 30psi, the back pass side tyre is new and different but it was pulling before I put it on.

Have you checked all those bushes etc with the front jacked up?
Mine feel great till things are un weighted :)

I'll go through it all again tomorrow, need to get it right up in the air to jet wash underneath. How much do these things weigh ? Got a pair of 2t axle stands to play with.

Has it been used off road? sounds to me like camber or inclination is out on one side, Rick

I have been off road in it but it pulled before that, and it hasn't got any worse since. Is there an idiots guide to checking and adjusting the camber and inclination ?

it will be the ball joints, steering relay and idler. jack the passenger side front up leave the drivers on the floor. (it will hold it still a bit) now with someone holding the drivers side wheel . wiggle side to side the passenger wheel .

you will find you have up to 20-25 mm movement on the passenger side moving and the drivers side still being dead still

if you look at your idler when you do this it will move up and down 1-2mm this is exaggerated/ multiplied over the distance of the system to 20-25mm

I was not being specific, just trying to establish if it might have had a knock at some time hard enough to bend something, and no there is no easy way, its jigs I am affraid, but I would go with Extreme he has had a lot more dealings with these motors and their suspension than I have, and the idler does seem a weak point, Rick

As said before , you've got to get that side off the ground . You'll be amazed how much slop is in that stupid idler:doh
It'll all look fine on the ground though:augie

Had the passenger side off the ground, and the wheel wobbles all over the place. The Bearing has definitely gone, but there is movement in the idler bracket as well. Where it joins the bracket that has the cross bar and track rod joined to it. Fair bit of movement in both sides. Is that normal ?
Why is called an idler ? Doesn't it do anything ? If that's the case can I take it off ?
Any idots guide to changing the wheel bearing(s) on here ?

Found a couple of guides in the downloads bit*, do I need to have the wheel right off, or just off the ground ?

*If anyone's travelling to Holland via Harwich international and wants to stay over I have a large garden and tent. Also a spare room and double sofa bed (if the dogs aren't sh*gging on it).

Yes you do need the idler :augie
Ignor that unless its bent badly :thumbs
Ask makeitfit ( Pete ) for a price for his idler bracket

As for the bearings, take a look at www.milneroffroad.com & rubbers :thumbs

Good luck :thumbs

It's that joint in the photo that's moving, where the freshly painted satin black meets the old n rusty . Not just 1 or 2 mm either, it's all over the place, both ends the same.

Get another idler or replace the rubber joint :thumbs

With the bracket, it will limit the movement :thumbs
& you can add washers between the idler & bracket to stop the slop :naughty

Much as I'd like to sell you an idler bracket, I think it sounds more like your drag link is shaged:doh
Milner again for ace service and pretty good prices too :thumbs

keep the closet door shut if you don't want people looking in .... ducky.:D
which part is the drag link ?
