Ok... I bought a dog cage for the hounds.. thing is I want to be able to leave the tailgate open.. but the puddle lights on the mirrors seem to stay on. Whats that all about.. Do they stay on forever as long as the tailgate is open?

I don't want to flatten the battery... nor do I want to cook the dogs :nenau

There must be a switch that closes when the tailgate is opened, you can either disable the switch, or better, put a switch in line with the tailgate switch, then you have the option.
However, if you leave the new switch in the off position, then if the alarm is triggered by someone opening the tailgate, then the alarm won't trigger if someone does.

We don't have these luxuries on our Mavericks and Terranos.:lol

Best regards, Rustic

OK , thought it worth checking in case I'm missing something obvious. It also comes on with the rear window up / open so there must be a switch there to... this is drastic now... I may have to read the manual :lol

*Newb alert*
Ok how do I find out which mine is 2008 Diesel 2.5?... which Rwotsit is that?

I an R51 it appears from a quick google with the YD25DDTi High Power lump. :clap

what's a puddle light? :nenau

I didn't want to show my lack of knowledge either, so I just got on and answered, one way to turn them off without knowing what they do.... :lol :lol

They must be some form of light shining down on to the floor by the doors, so that you don't tread in a puddle. Triggered by the remote control.

I bet you want some now. :lol :lol

or do they give a 'puddle' of light? maybe shining down from the mirrors?

No, not for me, I'm not one for gadgets, I've even taken the bulb out of my rear inside light so i can leave the back door open and listen to the radio, could this be the answer here - remove bulbs? :lol

I think the manufacturers are putting more on road features to 4x4's to give them more kerb appeal.

Like Landrover getting rid of the spare wheel on the rear door and placing it under the rear of the vehicle.
Not practical for off road use, but again adds to kerb appeal.

Also detachable tow balls, so you don't knock your shins when you are loading shopping in the back. :lol :lol

For 90% of these vehicles off roading means climbing the kerb to collect the kids from school.

Plank you could be right yet!

They are indeed lamps in the mirrors which come on when you unlock the car or open the door and I assume they are there to see the puddles.

Heres a piccy not from a Pathfiner mind but...

I may yet explore the removal if it comes to it.. then again someone on "The Nissan Path" suggested a battery saver will kick in and shut it all down. No more detail on that mind.. H'mmm

if removal won't work, take the bulb out, drop it, then put it back :augie
