What was wrong with it?

Every time the engine returned to idle it ran lumpy as fook (like a petrol engine misfiring) as it was overfuelling.
I kept turning the adjustable dial down and down and by the time the power gain was pretty much lost the engine ran just about OK!

Far as I can tell there are 2 boxes, 1 for Zexel & 1 for Bosch... I've done a bit of reading on the Donator boxes, A Google search, takes you to an Aussie Patrol forum, and it does seem like now and again someone does gets a bad one, but there are plenty who sing it's praises too. :nenau

Did you go for the German box? Are you happy with the Gains?

When I ordered the Donator box I stated my correct fuel pump type.
With the Speedchip box gains are good and am happily running on setting 6 of 8.

Does it just up fueling then ?

U adding a boost gauge and bleed valve ?

Should see cracking gains then especially if running rich

It ups the fuelling but it is intelligent enough to not do this at idle.
I believe the wire to the air flow meter could be a reference point for when to add fuel as it is simply a 0-5V output or thereabouts. eg don't go 'live' and add more fuel until X Voltage is reached.
At setting 6 my engine does belch smoke above about 3,500rpm but I rarely go above that as I've already shifted up.
Setting 8 is just clear overfuelling on my engine as it smokes lower down the rev range but this would provide some scope for upping the boost slightly if this is what you would be inclined to do.
I'm not intending on taking the tuning any futher as the 'box has the usual intermittent rattle at idle and the head has been double skimmed so I'm just happy that she is running like a dream now and should continue to do so for some time running as is.

Note, the only other addition to the 'tuning' is a K&N filter in the standard airbox and a second 3" hole cut in the airbox for improved airflow. This is currently open to the engine bay and not what I wanted as i misplaced the hole on the airbox, but i'm gong to be having a second go and will be running 3" ducting from the front of the engine bay and the airbox will have a MAF adapter plate on it for a sealed input so it is drawing cold air. Will update once this is done.

Also the donator box that I tried is for either pump, I'm pretty sure there are wiring instructions for both pumps in the instructions. I'll have a look in the boot of my Terrano where it currently resides.
