You can easily get a 16mm drill bit mind and have it with 13mm shank:D

Might be an option but as I am welding them in both sides plasma should do the job good enough. I will have a look at drill bits and their prices.

Further update from todays work, Both panels in to blank where part of the existing windows were. This is the right side which I did last, first left side does not look at good :lol But will be putting some filler on to get some lovely curves.

PICS!! TONS OF PICS! :clap

Kept forgetting my camera, then when I remembered it was out of battery :doh

Took one of my fedima tyres down to test fit and remembered my camera!
Man I forgot how big and how much these tyres weighed, They measure about 36.5" :naughty

Rear 'arches' in the body is now fully welded, Will grind some of the weld back to get a better finish. Some of the rear winch tray still needs welding up once I have my recovery rings welded in place, After that onto the sills!

Popping over to say hi ;)

Front

In the future, Plan is to move the axle back about 10" or so. The pen marker gives you an idea where it would sit.

Will be no overhang at the tape measures position of 10" extra

Wish I had the space and cash to take on a project like this.
Maybe next year:thumb2
Making a proper good job of your project fez:thumb2:thumb2

That's seriously neat welding mate.absoloutly loving this mate.

:thumb2:thumb2 might be a silly Q but is there a reason your wanting to make the wheel base longer as it'll cut down your break over angle:augie if it's just to reduce the rear over hang would it not be easier to just move the rear winch mount further back & chop off any chassis past the winch

Thanks for the comments folks :)

100" is regarded as the best all round wheelbase for winch challenge stuff for many reasons, Think the patrol swb is 94" standard.

It's mainly for stability for hillclimbing and descents.

Also if it's longer the chances of the front and back wheels being in the same muddy hole are are a little less.

This is starting to look like a bit of an extreme build.
Not summat you would want take the Mrs town in.
Will it be road legal.will it be your laning motor?
Or just a PNP thing?

Will be road legal, For pay and plays and laning. should be done by next summer :)

Hope to sell the maverick at some point and buy a van.

Fair play to ya mate that is coming along nicely. And your welding is spot on. Wish my welding was as nice as yours.

It's pretty rough in some places ha

Passenger side sill is basically welded on now, What a mission! I need to get myself a welding jacket!!!

Hope to have the drivers side welded in place this saturday.

Had to hold off on the rear recovery hoops as I am having trouble drilling the steel for some reason?? Anyway asked a mate who works with metal daily and he said I can borrow his mag drill! Result!

Pics to follow in the next few days :)
