The school I work at have a 10ft x 5ft twin axle trailer that has been sitting dormant for a couple of years before I even started there!!! I asked the powers that be whether I could purchase it but they said no as it would all have to be legit and would have to be invoiced to me and go through some stupid tender process :doh

I told them it was a massive waste it just rotting away there and after going a bit further up the food chain I offered my services to get it back on the road as it didn't look in bad shape. The deal was that I'd get it back in a road worthy condition as long as I could have unrestricted access to it as and when I pleased but it could obviously be used by others should they need it and hands were shook :D They told me that it would never be used again in an official school capacity but the guys in the estates department etc would more than likely want to use it but I'm cool with that, it's one of those situations where if I keep it quiet and be discrete I'll be the only one that uses it.

So here it was as I found it looking a bit worse for ware and being used to house some of the tractor attachments

I started work by removing all the equipment off it so I could at least move it to check it over to see how much work I was in for, all of the tyres still have pressure in, one of the wheels feels and sounds as if it could do with a new bearing.

The base was rotten and as I put my foot on it........ it went through, so all of that got pulled off, by hand!!!! :doh

Luckily though, the gap between the 2 buildings seems to be just a dumping ground for old odds and ends, boards, cones etc, amongst it on the floor with grass growing around it were 3 massive boards I only need 2 but one will have to be cut down to size and they will be bolted through to the chassis :naughty

Glad I'm able to salvage them, almost as if someone had the idea before me and put them there next to the trailer they are that perfect :naughty

Getting it into the workshop after work tomorrow which is on site, won't be going on the road until it's fit to be there and crucially I have my towing entitlement, having an actual trailer at my disposal now seems to be doing wonders for my efforts in obtaining that now :thumb2

We will be stripping the brakes tomorrow, inspecting tyres, wheels and bearings, jockey wheel and hitch, board are going to be cut to size and put aside and then we're going to wire brush the whole thing and Hammerite it either black, or the school blue, whatever I can get cheapest :clap

Watch this space, something none Nissan related for a change

I love projects like this. It'll definitely come in handy and free trailer storage too! :thumbs

I'm just waiting for the bad times to come around as I seem to be on a roll at the minute :( :doh

Yeah storing it I would have no chance!!!! It's a 30 min drive from my house if I'm desperate but I'm here every day so will know if I'm likely to need it.

Frankie Fullwood would be proud of me :lol

I wonder how many will get that reference :augie

Awesome, our mate lives on in comments like that pal. Nice project and good look with the trailer license. Glad I've got grandad rights as I wouldn't have a clue how go about getting that sorted out. I did pay for a caravan club manuvering course years ago which was excellent and has paid dividends

I miss him man, had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times, the sad thing is there will be no more Frankie Fullwood adventures now :( So I'm going to carry on trying to be him :naughty :thumb2

Yeah it's a real ballache mate :( Just want it out the way so I can get towing, make some money then on the side, hate not being able to move stuff around independently.

Love the quote, Chris would be here like a shot with advise and I'll bet with another pair of hands to help you.

Rarely a day goes by without him passing through my thoughts. Sure miss my pal.

Good luck with the project, Ive got a little trailer about 5x3 which whilst hardly use always
yearn for a bigger trailer like yours.

I know what you mean Richard, I think of him often, my own boyish ways and dodgy shenanigans seem odd to most but on reflection, in another life me and Frankie Fullwood could be best friends

Going to get he kindle out in a bit, I've been pacing myself through his 2nd book, I'm getting through the chapters way way too quickly :(

Any news on his 3rd book being finished? Sure I heard this somewhere?

RIP Plank you legend :rose

Need to read the second book too, not a massive reader to be honest but I could not put the first book down once I started it! Trailer looks well mate, make sure you have the weights worked out when loading, they are pretty keen these days especially if vosa stop you!!

The 2nd one is class mate, gonna get in bed with it soon, plenty more raunchy scenes :naughty

Yeah I've had worse days mate, not often you get something like that for nowt, I presume the weight should be stamped on the hitch somewhere with loading weights?

Bloody VOSA :bobby:

The trailer should have a plate on it, usually around the A frame it will give a gross weight and unladen weight. Gross minus the uladen trailer weight equals your loading weight :thumb2

Kindle type e books are on amazon, less than 2 quid each and goes to supporting his widow
and family.

back to trailer, i fancy something more full size pickup bed dimensions your 10x5 sounds
spot on. suspect a small caravan chassis could work, 10-12x6feet, just the storing of it.

Also notice I recycled the old terrano side steps into mudguards on the trailer :thumbs

Graft!!!!!!!!!!!

So tonight I started on the trailer, the estates department have kindly given me the use of the garage that we have on site where they repair the mowers etc

Good news!!! It moves and the handbrake wasn't seized on which was a start :thumb2

Was only when it was on the back of the car that I realised it was missing a rear door as there are 4 hinges on the bottom of the trailer at the back, I presume this would have also housed the number plate.

Removed all of the old wood, then when that was out, I wire brushed the axles and hubs as they were looking a bit rusty but they came up a treat, the wheels were less good, the tyres have cracks in and the wheels really need stripping back and painting nice.

Painted the axles

..... and then the rest of the trailer

Still bits to paint, then I'll be looking at the wheels and tyres, then electrics, then board will be cut to size and bolted down through the chassis.

Won't be until next week now before I can make any progress with this one, the weekend will be devoted to finishing the Cavalier and getting it up for sale :thumb2

Nice pal. Did you have the drums off for a muck out. Would imagine they'll need the cobwebs blown out.
The rear door, is it a loading ramp/door or are there pull out ramps stored under?
Ian.

No pull our ramps, don't really think it's a car trailer, and I can't find a weight plate on it anywhere, as Craig said they are usually rivited somewhere on the A-Frame :nenau

We have a Honda 500cc quad and we reckon we'd get that on twice and still have space down the sides or maybe even 3 quads side on if sideways.

The drums were full of cobwebs and a few dead brown leaves lol, shoes had some life yet

I found with Ifor Williams trailer that I can buy a wheel and tyre for about £10 more than local tyre firms want for just the tyre so it's not worth refurbing the wheels.

Doing a good job. Would be handy to find the tailgate/ramp.

Already looking, might be easier to get another one the same width as the trailer and re weld the mounting pins in a different position

Walked past the trailer last week whilst it was back where I'd left it

Looked really good in the daylight and looked somewhat finished even though the boards had only been thrown back on for storage.

Still some painting to go however the weekend I did purchase the lights and dug out an old breakaway cable I had to replace the one that is fitted now as it's awful!!!!
