The school I work at have a 10ft x 5ft twin axle trailer that has been sitting dormant for a couple of years before I even started there!!! I asked the powers that be whether I could purchase it but they said no as it would all have to be legit and would have to be invoiced to me and go through some stupid tender process :doh
I told them it was a massive waste it just rotting away there and after going a bit further up the food chain I offered my services to get it back on the road as it didn't look in bad shape. The deal was that I'd get it back in a road worthy condition as long as I could have unrestricted access to it as and when I pleased but it could obviously be used by others should they need it and hands were shook They told me that it would never be used again in an official school capacity but the guys in the estates department etc would more than likely want to use it but I'm cool with that, it's one of those situations where if I keep it quiet and be discrete I'll be the only one that uses it.
So here it was as I found it looking a bit worse for ware and being used to house some of the tractor attachments
I started work by removing all the equipment off it so I could at least move it to check it over to see how much work I was in for, all of the tyres still have pressure in, one of the wheels feels and sounds as if it could do with a new bearing.
The base was rotten and as I put my foot on it........ it went through, so all of that got pulled off, by hand!!!! :doh
Luckily though, the gap between the 2 buildings seems to be just a dumping ground for old odds and ends, boards, cones etc, amongst it on the floor with grass growing around it were 3 massive boards I only need 2 but one will have to be cut down to size and they will be bolted through to the chassis :naughty
Glad I'm able to salvage them, almost as if someone had the idea before me and put them there next to the trailer they are that perfect :naughty
Getting it into the workshop after work tomorrow which is on site, won't be going on the road until it's fit to be there and crucially I have my towing entitlement, having an actual trailer at my disposal now seems to be doing wonders for my efforts in obtaining that now :thumb2
We will be stripping the brakes tomorrow, inspecting tyres, wheels and bearings, jockey wheel and hitch, board are going to be cut to size and put aside and then we're going to wire brush the whole thing and Hammerite it either black, or the school blue, whatever I can get cheapest :clap
