Some car owners never venture under their vehicle, relying on the MOT to give them a 12 month worry free period. THIS WORRIES ME.

I think I would be contacting the authorities for them to inspect what you have left.

The garage that did the MOT need investigating, did Stevie Wonder do the under body inspection?

Within the 12 month MOT period, you would have had an out of body experience, in more ways than one.

The body could have left the chassis, and you didn't even need to be involved with a collision for that to happen:doh

Criminal...

Rustic

So glad i decided to do that patch b4 we went offroading...we were supposed to be @ difflock to day :bow

Mot can only use finger pressure on rust and cannot remove carpets etc

Trayback the c*nt

Sheesh I thought mine was bad :doh but that IS rotten  Top work on the rebuild though :clap
Now if you're carrying on with the back end why not tub it and make room for some serious articulation ? It's one of the few things I wish I'd done to mine.
When mine was gone like yours we just cut the floor from a scrapper and zipped it back up :lol
Rear body mounts were like yours and only came to light when I started to make my rear winch bumper.
Cut a bit of 3 x 2 box and put that in and lifted the shell at the same time :thumbs
I see you're also working round the front bulkhead. Be very carefull of the main loom

Plan is to get another car & do a rebuild with a body & a buggy version with the chassis off the donor. need to see what i can muster but atm we back to walking :(

right ideas on what to do to the wee beast....for the mean time is going to bet a rebuild since body has to come off anyho & spend a good bit on the underneath too......but can always do more :sly ....:naughty........:augie

well I got the rear axle off at the weekend still struggling with the lower arms tho...now its the bolt that goes thru the bush & the other end is splined for the torsion bars....
which I forgot to mark up & the wee cap ends fell off :doh thats gonna be fun to put back on right :bow

But on the plus side I have ordered my steel,
5 8x4ft sheets of 1mm steel.. well 1 has to be swapped cos its coved in rust & they tried to hide it in the middle :(
3 80x40x3mm box section (6.5m lengths)
15 x 48.3od x 3.65 blueband tube (6.5m lengths)

so now I really gotta get my butt moving & get stuff done quicker :clap:rolleyes:

and for anyone who didn't have the displeasure of seeing the state of it, here's the pics on the body off thread :thumb2

I dont think thats too bad. Lot of metal to go at in a 8x4 sheet. Never bought any myself but like to know what these things cost

Easy, when you are ready to put it back let me know and by then I will have re indexed mine and will be able to tell you what level to start, but if you are in a hurry then from memory the arm with the long bolt on it needs to be about 50 mm below the cross member when slack and when tensioned near flush with the member for a standard motor, Rick

cheers rick! any tips on how to get the spine bolt out the bottom arm? bolt is seized to the bush I recon :doh

help please

Chassis is coming along nicely its almost done just a few bits left to do then I can finally start the rebuild process
need to make up new spring brackets, compression rod brackets & a few other bits & bobs

But my question is can anyone give the the distances from the rear of the chassis to the pole with the shock mounts & same from the other side (I've got no spring brackets at it'd need to be from the other brace pole) I'm a complete twat & chopped it out without measuring it :doh:doh:doh:doh

Thanks in advance

I'm working away from home at the most or I'd be able to measure mine for you :/ If you still need it when I get home I'll sort it for you :)

Cheers makeitfit, I would be so fussed if it didn't have that trailing arm on it but it does so it's gotta be right of it'll make the rear axle go all funny :(

Tbh I haven't been at the workshoop since thurs.....need to sort some regular grandparent duties pmsl

I wasn't as bad last mot but my terrano was on Rothsay (an island) Whaen I bought it so sea/salty air, plus offroading thru rivers & hitting tree stumps, rocks ect took its toll plus most of it was under plastic skirts & brackets which the mot man isn't allowed to remove & he ain't allowed to hit with a hammer no more either so unless he can stick his thumb thru it, it should get an advisory.

still got some of the other side to do, new front shocky to fit & rear arches to patch & prob move other seat belt mount into the boot with the other one.
:thumb2

Keep up the good work, I wondered why it was in such poor condition, fair play for not condemning it to the scrap yard like so many do these days

It was on rothesay when I bout it, which is an island in the Irish sea & no one's looked after the poor bugger, but it's honest & I love it, seems to have personality :p

just a wee update.........still working on it:eek:

been attacking all the rust on the rear axle & all the other suspension parts, Had a shot of sand blasting it the other day with a wee £20 out of lidl that i got last yr.....but sand i bought was too fine :doh & i wasn't getting anywhere fast although it did help.

gonna take the other bag back & get courser stuff if I find the receipt

once all thats done I need to get some paint & get all the new bushes ect on & back up on its wheels. then the building with begin...hopefully over Easter holidays :thumb2

Slowly but surely win the race.......or so I keep telling myself:lol
