HI guys,

I'm fairly untechnical when it comes to motors so bear with me please.

The power socket in the armrest and in the boot appear to have no power going to them. I've checked the manual which refers to the fuse cover/lid sticker for identifying fuses. I see the one for the cig lighter, but nothing else seems appropriate. Is there a separate one for the other power sockets? If so could somone point mein the right direction. Or if someone thinks its something else please do tell.

Thanks in advance.

This is a great site with an almost family like feel to it, so congrats to you guys for the good work.:clap

I seem to have so many niggly things with this motor I hope I don't bend everyone's ear with all the question's I have.

I'm not familiar with your power sockets but I would of said the the cig lighter fuse is a good place to start. Does your front cig lighter have power to it?

Jim T

Cigar lighter fuse covers all three points or it did on mine good luck.

Terrano 11 2.7 TDI

i was thinking off ADDING the other two, be good to know if all on the same fuse...

what size fuse should it be?

ok. take out fuse and see if you have for a conection from sockets that done work back. then to the earth. could be a bad connection..

so what else if playing up then..

Theres a relay under the bonnet that runs these too. I've been meaning to resupply mine off the secondarry battery and put an override switch in so they can be live when the ignition is off.

BTW you have checked em with the ignition on haven't you?

cheers for the fast replies....

the cig lighter works okay, just the other two don't.

Not a big problem but in the summer i want to chuck a cool box in there.

This relay... would that enable the cig lighter to work with the other two not?

Bill

oh and yep the ignition was on....

just wondering as it has a tow bar fitted to pull a caravan (The extra socket on the tow bar), would that have anything to dowith it?

id just try the easy bit, then rewire..

i was thinking of putting the boot one into the cover for the lights. if i make a mess of making a hole i just need a new cover then

Zippy - the other issues aren't really electrical related so wasn't sure I could post them here.

So far replace full exhaust front to back, water pump , back callipers, 2 new tyres, got allignment done and four tyres balanced. (Have it under a month!)

The tech section is very helpfull... as Ive got smoke from exhaust with no loss of power - going to try cleaning mini filter under banjoe next

but main niggle at the moment is steering wheel shake between 60 and70 mph

originally she pulled to the left, got alligned and it seemed to sort it out, but still had the bounce in the steering wheel. So I got them all balanced now 3 times. Helped very little. So today put rears on the front. The bounce is more or less the same but I now have a strong pullto the left again..

is there something else you can adjust....?

ahem, well you did ask:doh lol

i got the wheel shakes are 60 to 70 too.. just means im speeding if i get it..

im sure we can get it all sorted out in the end..

we have a good record of this just ask willow...

I used to have a wheel shake and it turned out to be a bulge in the tread of the tyre so it wasn't round. Also try getting your wheels balanced.

Zippy I stuck my two sockets in those exact two covers with the same way of thinking as you. I ran my own wiring for the towbar so put thick supply cables to the back so I simply ran the sockets off them via a relay.

Did the sockets work before the tow bar was fitted? and stopped after? could be the fitter has pulled a connector apart without knowing it.

BB could be wheel bearings are a bit loose and letting the wheels shake? Jack it up and check play by grabbing wheel top and bottom to see if it rocks on the hub...I assume you've tried different tyre places as plenty of them are slapdash as hell..

Yeah different places, and one i trust as trust for the last 15 years and never let me down. A fiver to balance all the wheels! They got it a lot better than the place i paid 6 quid a tyre.

Will try the bearing next... sounds probable as everyone keeps telling me the tyres aren't bad with no sign of buckle at all.

its strange as no steering shake at 0-57 shake from 57-72 ish then no real shake after that. I even had it at the ton the other day (clearing the injectors)and it was like a rock.

Don't know Jim as it's been like this with tow bar fitted since i got it. I've only towed a trailor so far but lights work, and the extra beeper for turning signals also work. Have nothing to plug into the "caravan" socket to test it.... just out of intrest what all cany u plug in there?

If you have the grey "12S" socket on your towbar it supplies perminant 12v, split charge for battery in caravan, caravan fridge 12v feed and reverse lights. Makes you think they may of knicked the supply from the sockets to the tow bar doesn't it, probably not though.

you read my mind, hope not.
