Poor acceleration and mis-firing

My '94 T2 2.7TD (no intercooler) has started to occasionally mis-fire (seems to be worse when accelerating), and the already poor acceleration has dropped right off i.e. 1st and 2nd gear it will only rev to about 2.5K and no more, 3rd 4th & 5th seem a bit better but not much, still v. slow. No MAF so not that. Any ideas anyone?

Bang on's the word! Cleaned the mini filter today, Terrano goes better now than it has in the 18 months I've had it - thanks guys!!!
One question - when I was refitting the power steering pump and belt, the fitting on the pump on to which the pipe from the reservoir fits came out of the pump (ATF everywhere!) I pushed it back in and gave it a (gentle) tap with a hammer to ensure it was fully seated, but I'm concerned that it came out relatively easily (I had a screwdriver under it to force the pump down enough to fit the belt back on). Is there any pressure in this hose, i.e. is there a chance that it could come out again whilst I am driving?

The mini filter is the 1st thing to go for when it wont rev above 2000rpm or smokes or mis fire type symptoms :thumbs

I clean mine every month now :thumbs

It's a spigot that is set into the body of the power steering pump - the hose is jubilee clipped to this spigot, and it's the whole spigot that came out (I would post a pic, but we are using an aquaintances' pc here in Spain at the moment, so I can't install Photobucket on it).
