Planks post on another thread just now about a sand quarry near the M5 reminded me of a suggestion I had - there may already be a source, but why couldn't we build a list of sites, ranging from 'pay 'n play' to open sites where access isn't a problem, so that when people want a bit of a blast to blow the cobwebs away they know where to go?

We could each do a bit of research in our own areas and report back so someone could collate the results and do a download?

Only legal places of course.....

Theres a great site nr Stoke on Trent, Silverdale open 1 sunday a month and also 1 nr Stourport, Worcestershire. Cant just think of the name of it now.

Also on this point Toms Farm nr Rhayader mid Wales, a very popular place to play, has been forcibly closed down to offroaders due to serious health and safety issues and planning issues too.

EDIT. The place in Stourport is Coney Green.
Theres also Buildwas nr Ironbridge

Just take a look on u tube for an idea of what was going on at Toms Farm.
Plenty of reported incidents of bikers and 4x4's coming together and the air ambulance having to lift injured parties out.

i only turn my back for 5 minutes, and waht happens? you are all taking my name in vain again :lol

anyway the site i mentioned the, the sand quarry, is a legal pay and play venue and is close the junction 4 m5 if you approach it from the hagley/ stoubridge dirrection it is on the right just after the last island before you hit junction 4, they usualy have advertisments in the road, but they do state no spectators allowed.

sorry i can t remember the name or anyhting usefull :thumbs

My little one whos now 2 1/4yrs has been green laning since she was about 3 months and has been to a P&P but not all day. Other half got whiplash injury 2 yrs ago and sufferes from that if its a bit rocky abouty.

:D:lol
:naughty

He's a hopeless case :doh

Just been looking at Toms Farm vids....biggest problem looked to be the mix of people who knew pretty much what they were doing and were prepared to take appropriate risks (and didn't mind what happened to their vehicles), versus complete morons....I suppose theres a place for all, but how the hell anyone who runs P&P venues copes with the H&S issues lord only knows.

I know, for example, that you can't contract out of the law, common or otherwise, so even if they get you to sign a disclaimer,if you have an accident on their land and hurt yourself, they are liable.

Difficult balance.....

I've only just joined the club and wanted to try some "offroading" went out greenlaning with terranosourus (see 23rd march thread in greenlaning section) had a great day out. I've had no real experience of this type of driving but found nothing too taxing to either me or my nav also you get to see some fantastic scenery instead of quarry walls :thumb2
Very helpfull and friendly guys too
The kids would have an ear to ear smile

Weardale off road centre has closed to p&p and tom's farm is still open for the time being and we will here what the fate is of tom's on the 28th of april.

I find green laning far more interesting so don't have a great experience of Pay & Play sites but the good ones like Parkwood (Tong), which operates all year round as a motoring venue for allsorts of stuff not just 4x4 P&P are very well but strictly marshalled, speed limits one way systems where appropriate etc - sre there are still the occasional roll over etc but thats to be expected comings together should never ever happen. At Parkwood people get asked to leave if the need arises.
