Calling wildlife fans! Picked this up at an auction today, Stone or Pine Marten? your thoughts please :nenau

Not at all, it's my "Best" guess

Having just gooooogled it, I revise my guess to Stone
Pine's seem to be a lot darkerer with a distinct white bib from the images I spied.
Now then what you reckon on my pump ? In or Out ? :lol

bear in mind this example is an antique and will have faded with age . . .

best guess, out! like turning a water tap on, or opening a gas cylinder - screwing it out should let more fuel through :thumb2

but don't blame me if . . . :doh

That was my best guess too, and have done so.

Hi,
I was in france visiting my mate who has a place there and up early one morning having coffee outside three of these came across the lawn playing and he said they came regular and he called them stone martins which are lighter in colour than pine martins which are still found in wales and scotland presumably.

Thanks folks, all the evidence seems to be saying stone marten, but I sort of wanted it to be a pine marten - maybe i could dye his fur? :lol

Does it eat much?.....it looks happy as it's smiling so it must really like you.

Taken from the web, it should be easy to tell.

The Stone marten (or Beech marten) is superficially similar to the pine marten.

The Stone marten has a somewhat longer tail, 25-32 cm in males and 23-27.5 cm in females...
The Pine marten has a tail length of 26-27 cm in males and 18-24 cm in females

It has a more elongated and angular head and has shorter, more rounded and widely spaced ears.

Its feet are not as densely furred as those of the pine marten, thus making them look less broad, with the paw pads remaining visible even in winter.
Wait until the winter and check it's feet

The Stone marten's fur is coarser than the Pine marten's
Have a listen to it's fur, see if it swears a lot

The Stone marten prefers more open areas than other martens
looking at yours, it seems to like the open area

Have a look on the bottom, if it says made in UK... then it must be a pine marten...:lol

I reckon it's a Beech Marten...

It looks a bit moth eaten but I think its pine martin,you see them quite often over here. I found one in a skip once!
(A stuffed one that is)

You could dye its fur,since the critter as died anyway:lol
