A great day out!! We wanted mud, well... We certainly got it

Heres a few sneak peek pics, nothing too crazy yet :naughty

Filling up with screen wash, not broken down :augie

Stcheemy!! :naughty

Some plate missing :augie

This poor old girl always gets beaten up... 2.4 petrol, alternator died again :doh

A little group :p

Say cheeeeeeeese

I know the ginger lad with the LWB T2, Craig isn't it?

We follow each other on Instagram :thumb2

Now comes the funny..
Should have cleaned this... I/C completely caked, and radiator too

Mucky pups

Looking at that rad now... :doh

So 15 mins into journey Terrano will not go above 40mph.. :nenau

Oh temp gauge is over the red!!!:eek::eek:

Oh crap.. Did there used to be a radiator there???

Just cooling off... Stranded with no water... :doh

Thought I'd best clean the terminals ;)

Mmmmhmmm tasty

So after finding a truck stop with nobody about.. We found a tap... And kept filling up 2l bottles which we squirted at the radiator to try to remove some of this crust....

Still overheating we eventually found Polski Pete who charged me five quid to spray the radiator!!!:eek::eek: saw me coming but hey... What can I do....

We still have minor heat troubles on the way home, only up hill she would sneak up, once backed off she was ok...

Then we arrived at our local jet wash... Who turned me away!!! I persuaded them I won't clean th obey just my engine... So they let me stay..:doh

You know you've done a good job when the petrol station won't let you wash it there :lol:lol:lol

New bonnet wrap :augie

Finally

Oh Alex :doh

And you wonder why you have running problems :doh

Had one really scary moment when I was close to rolling the Terrano... Climbed a step hill, could only see sky, accidentally veered off and my front wheel went off the side, 20/30ft high...with a very steep drop other side of bush...

You can see be bracing.. Frozen in fear...

After another member and marshal came to help we got me out of trouble,

You should have come dude... Such a good day!! Could not find a jet wash close though

Nah I'll stick with Elty, seems much more civilised and I know my trucks going to run right the week after :lol

Cracking day then mate, well done, now you fully understand why my rad is in the rear door, Rick

Alex make sure you give the winch & cable a good cleaning:thumbs now if you had kept the original bumper or chopped the top half off & refitted it behind the bumper you now have on it would have cut down the amount of mud in the engine bay:augie You say the temp shot up to the red:eek: did you hear the fan kick in (should have roared like on start up) if not it'll prob pay to replace the water pump so you have a new working viscus fan

It looks fun Alex, but only in an off roader like Ricks, I would not put my road going motor through mud like that, but then that me. As others have said, you are now having issues, but sounds like you and your crew had fun :thumbs

To be honest, looking at the covering of mud in the pics I would guess it was blasting through the mud at too high a speed that probably caused a lot of the issues rather than just the mud itself. Momentum is important but the crucial bit is not stopping (and therefore losing your momentum). A touch less speed (maybe a lower gear) might have stopped things getting quite so covered.

'course if you're heading into a bottomless pit like the ones Rick goes into then a rear mounted rad about the only answer :lol

Quick update for you chaps, I have cleaned the radiator thoroughly, thought all was well went to get the cb radio today, after 20 mins of high speed driving I noticed the temperature gauge was creeping up again :doh

So I arrive at the cb chaps house, he has a kitted 4x4 (Landy :hide:)

He asked the simple question... Have you checked the coolant :augie:augie:augie

Whoopsie.... Below the minimum mark... :doh:doh sorry chaps... :bow

Edit - oh, now all is fine...

but possible gasket damage done already only to raise it's ugly head later, sorry but that is how it develops over time, it is not good to go over temp even once, the head and block expand to amounts not seen before and damage is done even if not seen at the time or for some time after, you may be lucky and be OK but have done enough banger racing to know that lots of engines rarely survive a first overheat, the T2 engine is agreed much more robust but it is an engine with a gasket and can only take a certain amount of abuse, Leyland produced an engine without a head gasket in the 70's think it was called the fixed head 500, never blew a head gasket cos it did not have one but was a short lived engine fore other problems, but valve grinding meant a complete engine strip, block on the bench :doh, Rick
