Hi there, wondering if anyone could give me some advice regarding my Patrol gr 2.8 2000. I bought it about 6 weeks ago mainly to pull a horse box.My wifes mondeo would do a better job in low gears! Its pretty good once you get the speed up on the open road but trying to take off on a hill or any kind of incline you really have to give it some boot, it`s like there a loss of power as you leave out the clutch. Also changing from first to second the same thing you really have to get the revs up. the horse box with one horse weights about 1800kg - 2000kg. Maybe this is normal for the patrol, i have never driven one before. My last car was a maverick 2.7td swb 95 and that would lose the patrol in the lower gears. I brought it to the nissan garage and they said everything seemed to be fine with it. Would be very grateful for any help or advice.

Regards Donal

Power

Could be a few things but have your Mass air flow meter looked at. Could be just dirty and needs a clean or needs a new one.
Could be fuel filter, needs changing.
I would go for Air flow meter tho. Spose to be common with diesel engine cars. But ya never know dya ???

I`ve read a bit about that for the terrano in the archive, is it the same set up on the patrol. Thanks

Air flow

Not totally sure bout that. Your air flow meter is just to the left of your air box. Two Star shaped bolts hold it in place.

Yes it’s a very similar system with a hot wire MAF and probably the best place to start after changing the filters.

I`ll have a look at that tomorrow, the filters were replaced recently so i`ll start with the air flow sensor.

many thanks Donal

The patrol is geared totaly different to the T2. Yes you have got to get the engine revs up to pull off and as soon as you start moving you change into 2nd. I had the same thoughts when I changed fron T2 to Patrol, This thing needs a few revs when pulling off, if you don't it feels like its going to die

Yes you can also drive in 5th at 25mph, you can't do that in a T2. The 2.8 TD6 engine sounds and feels better than the 4 pot 3.0ltr, its got less powers, but 6 cylinders sounds more refined.

Disconnect the MAF to see if it drives the same or worse. If there is no change the MAF is suspect. Don't know the cost as I've not changed mine yet.

 The patrol is designed to pull 3.5 tonnes :?

My Patrol would pull a blumin house down. Gordon

Donal,

Try contacting the member Hammond1027 via PM or Email, he can supply Nissan parts and may be able to improve on the price somewhat.
