Did you ask them if they would provide cover for vehicles used on unsealed public roads (I did .... and they won't)? Their prices are *very* competitive if you never use the 'Troll for greenlaning.

Swift want £503 for my Maverick

Serves me right for living in effluent:doh south

Best so far from Sheila's Wheels £411 at renewal, up from £362, I have a month to get a better price

Over 10 years NCD 3 speeding points 2 years ago, passed my car test in 62 bike at 16 in 55

Swift wanted over £600, I will try others suggested later today.

I didn't specifically ask as they're legally the highway regardless of road surface.
I'll check for exclusions but didn't notice on the bits I did read :augie

There is a bit somewhere in their terms that caused me to worry about it and then ask. This was maybe three years back. I ended up in a great long multi-email discussion, as they didn't seem to know what an unsealed public road was. I remember that they asked for some examples (which I gave, but cannot remember which) - and in the end, they said that they wouldn't even provide reduced cover (Third Party only) if I drove the 'Troll anywhere that wasn't tarmac/concrete. They didn't seem to understand the distinction between "off road" and unsealed public roads.

I suppose I could have continued to argue the case, but I was losing the will to live, so just gave up and went elsewhere after the fifth or sixth email. For my Patrol, they weren't that much cheaper anyway - I vaguely remember about £395 or so.

end of the day green lanes are highways. Although I know insurance companies will get out of anything. The chances of a knock on a green lane with another motor is practically 0 unless I am in front.

True, but there's a very high risk of me twating my truck :lol

I'd be amazed if any insurance company offers fully comp on green lanes - Third Party at best, I think. Practically, if you drive green lanes, you take the risk of having to fix it if you wrap it round a stone gatepost (as I once did). My concern is more that I want to be able to prove that the motor is legal if I have to.

Andrew

Thanks for that. I live up a private rough lane and can use it as access to my property. Not sure what that is classed as! Its also a bridleway and footpath. David.

Adrian flux offer fully comp on offroading, Ask makeitfit :lol

Old roads that the tarmac machine missed but that are still legal to drive on - often called green lanes. See: www.glass-uk.org

Hummmm, This could be intresting! I used to live on an unsealed public road called Thoresby Street, Sutton in Ashfield. It joins Dalestorth road to Skegby Road. Its got a street name, houses built on it and a post code. So if this one is ok then they all shold be ok. Im not trying to say your wrong, im saying the insurance are!
I was questioned by Mr Plod about my insurance (Circa 1988) and was told the car had to have insurance to be parked on this road, (It had, just didint look like it should of) So if the insurance say its not insured on this kind of road, how the hell do yo insure it so Plad leave you alone.

(If you type in the address in too google maps, you will see the road im talking about, use MAP view first to find the road then flip to Satalite view)

I'm not sure that Adrian Flux offer insurance for offroading at all. They do offer fully comp insurance to folks that use their motors for greenlaning (i.e. ON public roads not OFF them) but I doubt that the cover includes damage to you own vehicle whilst actually driving on a greenlane - worth checking.

Aren't Adrian Flux a broker not an insurance company?

Andrew

well pete will be able to clear things up, they are a broker but have knowledge of the modded 4x4 stuff.

I have insurance for offroading with adrian flux.

Our Off road policies include:

Green laning cover included
Off road cover included

There is one in Rochdale that sounds similar - Thornham Lane. It used to be a RUPP but now, after the NERC Act, is a restricted byway. It has lots of houses on it, also a pub and a school - but (even though they do) it is illegal for members of the public to drive on it. The has more to do with the sillyness of the NERC Act than anything else.

If your insurance policy satisfies plod then you don't have a problem. Personally, I'd use a different insurance company .....
