i got hold of Parking sensor system 8 sensors, i'm only bothered about the rear and love how daved placed his four, i have read on ebay auctions you can spray them, my question is... will this not diminish the sensors, if it is possible is there a technique to this.

thx

Hi, I'm suprised no one has tried to paint them. I decided not to, no particular reason but when I asked around I was told they would be fine but never put it to the test :thumb2

hi the best i can offer is to phone the manufacturer

terranosorus has contacts in the motor trade he could possibly ask a few contacts.

my guess would be they will reduce performance with paint on them

sorry not much help

try pm to
daved and terra

ooops daved beet me to it

thx for the response, i will give it a try with just four first then if that works fantastic, will report back.

I have fitted and painted loads of parking sensors and it has no effect on the sensor ability.
If the sensor is all readied painted then just etch them up and paint the color you want, if not painted, and are plastic, use a plastic adhesive first then paint and lacquer.

All you need to do is put a fine coat.

On these sensors when connecting the power leads it says 1 to reverse 1 to brake and 1 to earth, I cannot understand the 1 connected to brake, does not make sense because all it does is beep once every time I brake when out of reverse but when I'm in reverse the sensors work a treat so ATM I have disconnted the brake connection as I say Im baffled the reason for this connection,

update:

got a m8 to look at it and he says it should according to the instructions goes to the brake, he agreed with me that it does not seem right the beeping every time i brake, he thought it maybe suppose to stop the reverse beeping when i brake but that does not work.

could it be something to do with the front sensors which i have not fitted yet ?.

i have a 6 sensor system on mine and i seem to recall the front ones only become active after you put your foot on the break. They then stay active for a certain amount of time. So yes it probably is that that is causing it to beep. (the fact they are not plugged in yet).

Hope this helps.

Iceman, the unit may be dodgy but before you write it off as that.........back to very very basic basics....................................

Recheck all the wiring thoroughly, both that you've got the correct wires on the car and the correct wires (and not being funny ,you understand the diagram) for the unit.

What should happen is theres one wire goes to the brake light. That activates the front sensors when you brake and it lights up so they are "dead" up until that point. Theres a second wire which goes to your reverse light which does the same when that is lights up and up until that point theyre dead or off. Theres a third wire which must be earthed.

Connect the buzzer.

Then connect all of the sensors. They are usually numbered. Although they will each fit (on the units I've seen) any of the sockets on the unit, you must follow the number coding or order of them. If you dont you may find that your problem stems from the fact you've got a mixture of front and back on each circuit.
Have you fitted as per the instructions and numbers on the sensor wires? ie 1 to 4 on the back with 5& 6 to the front? wont make any difference technically but if youve got 6 on the back and plug it into a front measuring socket :doh

It literally doesn't know whether its coming or going :D:thumb2

If this doesnt work send it back, it shouldnt beep when you brake if theres nothing in range (or theyre disconnected)

Things like this are usually down to daft arse mistakes, we all do them, youre taking advice here from the person who got the hot and cold the wrong way round on the washer so the cold washed delicates.............:augie

Or I wired the relay for a set of spots to the side light wire.......................:augie

I think the general advice, since they work by emitting ultrasonic sound waves, is that a thick paint coating could dim their range a bit, so a couple of quick, thin coats is advisable....:).

But like Pete, I find the towbar a reasonable no-cost option.....at least til you hit someone with it! :doh

daved a big thx for your post as i need people to explain as you say maybe it's daft arse mistakes lol.

thing is the instructions wire colour guide says.

red ------- reverse
orange---- brake
black ------ground

i had yellow instead of red.

first wire setup i did was red to reverse and black to earth and what this did was when i put it into reverse beeped once and nothing else but when i put yellow into reverse and when i put it into reverse it worked and kept testing it going back it got me perfect within a foot from another vehicle.

i have put A B C D in the right slots, i have not yet put E F G H in yet but i will do so and then put the red in the brake and see if that works.

maybe when all sensors are in then the wireing will need to be changed again to,
red ------- reverse
yellow---- brake
black ------ground

thankyou to all that try to help me in my stupid posts, i do go :doh when someone answers but the simplest answers are really appreciated.:thumbs

he probably ruined all his Janet Reger undies....thats buggered his Saturday Night TV....:lol:lol:lol:lol

had enough trying to suss the front sensors, had 4 middle age pot belly men scratching there rather thinning scalps and we all agreed that the wiring guide saying going to the brake does not make sense, the only way it will operate me going forward is with my foot on the brake as well to get power to the sensors. this i could handle as i could just brake near a object and by the beeps know how much space is left but the problem is when i'm driving normally and brake i get a warning beep.:(.

it really needs its own power supply with a switch to work which tbh i will not even bother putting front sensors in as i have spent so long trying getting it to work by the manual i have cut the brake wire and chucked the 4 sensors to the back of the garage lol.

iceman, i have never fitted these sensers, but could the brake wire be something to do with being fitted to an automatic car? just a thought mate. :nenau:rolleyes:
