Osf abs sensor buggered again...

Hi Guys, so last year i managed to get the shorted and maybe wrong abs sensor to work i do not know how but for months there has been no lights or issues until last week.

the brake warning light and abs lights came on so i had the ecu scanned and it said osf abs sensor, garage wanted crazy money so after loads of searching i found japanparts had the correct sensor and length of cable for £40 woop quids in.

Fitted it today and the brake warning light has gone out but the abs light is still on. abs works fine by the feel of the pedal and under emergency stop testing it was fine. I have checked the abs ring and it all seems fine and could not see any cracks or damage to it.

So i am now kind of stuck as my garage does not want to see it as i 'did it myself' haha any other clues lads? mot is up soon so need this fixed asap.

It would be a good idea to check the sensor resistance and compare it to the other side front one, if the resistance is very different then while the new sensor fits the hole it may be electrically incompatible, you did well to get the old one out by the way, Rick

with a multi meter, if you do not have one they are cheap as chips for a basic model which is all you need, try halfords/maplins/machine mart, less than a tenner, Rick

Bought one so what do i do to check it? Sorry motor electrics are all new to me

Edit. Done a youratube search so have a rough idea will give it a go and report back

Have tried two multi meters on the resistance setting and im getting no readings from either sensor? Im i doing something wrong? What setting should i be on, 200, 2000, 20k etc? Do i turn the hub? Fekin hard to get the prongs to stay connected to the sensor.

When i try to spin the hub i mean its hard to keep the prongs attached to the connector

So stupidy on wrong setting. On 2000 ohms or whatever it reads 1654 on the osf. 1700 on the nsf. So both seem to be working,

fuses are all good so could it be the wiring from the sensor connection to ecu?

Could it be the hub wheelbearing?

I don't have abs on my mav, but I just thought... does the abs unit remember a fault until it is reset somehow...:nenau

Is there a reset proceedure, or... disconnect the battery for a few hours and try again.
Note Radio code could be lost, so make sure you have that before you start.


Before you disconnect the battery, please wait for advice from other members who have done this, as it can affect the immobiliser too.

I can't imagine wheel bearings affecting the abs, but stranger things have happened.

Cheers rustic, im not sure but a good call on the ecu holding codes. Im sure the last time i changed the abs sensor folk on here said the ecu deletes the codes automatically once fixed.

Any thoughts on this one Rick??

I can give up and go to the local garage but i think its close to being sorted....

Have had to replace a broken sensor wire on two of my terranos over the years.
Sorted my abs fault out instantly.

once any errors are sorted ABS reverts back to normal automatically, no need for any kind of reset, this is a life or death brake system remember, if someone died cos a memory needed to be "reset" think of the consequences to the manufacturer, Rick

I unplugged the sensor wire,and did a continuity test with my multi meter while i twisted and folded the wire from the sensor back to the plug.
Was broken where it bends around the upper wishbone.
