Nice:thumb2 take it you'll be polishing your new hubs every week now Steve:lol

Nice one Steve, manuals are definitely the way to go imho :thumbs

Alex mate, words fail me :doh

See now I'm looking at removing my fixed for a set of autos so I can save a bit of fuel, scrap manuals off, can't be arsed getting in and out in and out :/

You don't HAVE to get out, just leave 'em on if you want

Plus for the price of those you could habe brought 2, 2nd hand sets of Autos, serviced both, fitted 1 set and kept another spare in the car :thumbs2

you'd have to be seriously unlucky to break 2 sets!!!!

don't need to unlock them for tarmac as long as 4wd isn't engaged

Ahh right, this old topic always keeps getting me, so the 4wd lever still engages and disengages to what you want but if you switch the hubs off the front shaft internals ect wont turn? :nenau

So for example you could have the hubs in the on position which means internals always spinning but not engaged 4wd unless you chose.

Or you could set the hubs to off, but if you drove in some muck and forgot you'd be in a spot of Bother :naughty and even if you engaged 4wd they wont engage until you manually click them in place :thumb2

That is spot on Alex, for manual hubs. We don't have the option on our motors unless we fit some. If we had manual hubs and had them locked on, we'd be exactly where we are now.

Cool I see. It's quite a good idea, I guess it stops failure occurring or atleast making it less likely. The only bad thing would be knowing me, I'd forget to engage it an drive into a swamp :augie

What happens of you have the hubs off and engage 4wd?

Nasty noises or grinding? Or just lack of 4wd?

yes alex, but if you leave them locked on your mpg will go down, will only be locked when out laning as the extra usage between lanes will be negligible so won't make a big impact anyway

just lack of 4wd even then all you would have to do is get ya arm dirty and lock them :lol

We've fixed hubs on our 04 terranos so are turning all shafts all the time anyway.

I have the same manual hubs as those, and from the same outfit.:thumb2

Manual hubs are more versatile than fixed or auto hubs, they're good for engaging 4 low for reversing the caravan/trailer, lot less clutch slipping.:clap
