Hi All,

To avoid a big traffic jam we took our swb Terrano though a deep ford (2.5 foot deep and 30 foot across) and stalled, twice. Managed to get out in low range. Power dipped a little after that on the way home, that but cleared up. Checked the oil and no obvious signs of water in it (looking for emulsification). Sprayed wd40 into all the connections and left it drip drying on the inclined drive. Restarts fine, a bit of smoke and a whining noise from the exhaust, but for all I know they were always there, and it's difficult to judge smoke I the dark witha torch as it shows up so much more.

Glad we got out, as it was a little hairy (especially as my wife was driving and it was my fault we went in).

Never again ! (In my wife's Terrano anyway)

What else do I need to look out for to make sure the Terrano is not broken?

you sucked up some water into the air intake under the nearside front wing this will have contaminated the MAF, if it is a Bosch it is supposed to be self cleaning, the Hitachi is not, clearly you did not suck up enough to enter the cylinders or it would be a dead engine, have a look at the air filter, I would chang it anyway, Rick

yup, bet the filter is wet too....choked the engine.

Yes, just checked. Filter is wet in the bottom, so have removed it and wiped out the housing. Will dry it in the airing cupboard tonight for tmo and buy another tmo.

Taking it down the M4 tmo, so I guess we'll find out if there is any permanent damage.

before you go to bed tonight get on your knees and have a minutes conversation with him upstairs:thumb2

Love that turn of phrase right there lol
Never heard that before

Maf will be fine with a quick dry off in the airing cupboard :thumb2 Give your alternator a good squirt of WD40 too.
Air box should have a little drain grommet at the bottom so most water will drain out of that. As said above dump your soggy filter.
Close shave there mate

You know what, that truck is the best £1400 I ever spent! We sold an Audi A5 3.0 TDi Quattro and a Meriva and bought this, and abused it, towed with it, got so many things wrong and it still keeps going. Bless it. Respect it !

Same here..

Yes, it was the one next to the Lands End Pub crossing the river Loddon. Plenty of news stories & pics on line. We we very very lucky. It was foolhardy.

Happy to report that the HMS Terrano was indeed fine even after long trip down the M4 today. What a HERO ...

I've been advised we should avoid anything over 18" deep in future.

Just need to dry out the headlight housings now and find the tow bar electrics box which seems to have a short on the right indicator.

I have to confess, I did get a bit of a rush after we made it out, but don't try this at home kids, not with your wife driving, the kid & the dog in the back, no snorkel and no buddies to drag you out if needed :doh

Thanks all :thumb2

Did she stall or did it suck water in? I've been up to the windows in water without a snorkel but it was for a few seconds only.

It was a wide ford. Slow moving though. Both, I think water blocked the air intake when the front end was awash about half way across, then she stalled. Some got sucked into the filter though, but luckily not enough to get into the cylinders. Very lucky.

I've been through water upto the headlights a few times in my last T2 & never sucked in any water but as stopped you lost the air pocket in the wing

I know that Ford well, a workmate wrote off a brand new engine in his van when he went through it. It had less than 600 miles on the clock :doh:doh
