Think you will find you have to pay what you bid on the auction thats the whole point of it.I sold a car a while back they tried to knock me down £20 and had traveled 100 miles they left without it so be aware that you may drive 200 miles for nothing if you start messing about on price.

yup. worst case scenario is simply it doesnt drive and its got filler holding it together underneath. i mean, i wont be buying the car if its this bad. Rick has kindly agreed to inspect the car for me, and possibly trailer it up here for me all paid of course! so im very comfortable Rick will spot anything major.

youre right though, sometimes you do take a chance although if you think about it, i havent taken any chance yet, ive just enterred a bid on a car, won it, and now waiting for information about the car. I wont be feeling even remotely bad, if the deal falls through because i change my mind, the only reaos ill change my mind, if something bad comes to light.

ok, just had this back from the chap:

"The vehicle is driveable, no problem there. I've described the car as accurately as I can but if there is anything else specifically you need to know please email me. I've a couple of manuals (Haynes and another) which I will supply no problem. The bodywork and the engine tune are really the most important, I've lived with the bodywork for some time now so would recommend first job to be a good engine tune from someone a little 'old school' carburettors, points etc. The only additional item you will need to know is that a switch has been fitted to manually turn on the radiator cooling fan, the X1/9 is known for it's automatic switch to be set to cut in a quite a high temperature, the manual one I always use when the guage reads around 80/85 degrees.

As far as I'm aware the car as no 'major rot issues', I had some welding done for the last MoT has it has been garaged overnight since then, although used and outside when I've used it for work. The vehicle drives well, engine responsive (although as stated would benefit from a tune up), clutch, gearbox, steering and suspension good for a car of its age. By all means if you wish to arrange an inspection that if absolutely fine."

Well, I'm not buying the car now, got mot history check done and the mileage hasn't changed since 2006, so can't trust anything really. Also, major not fails over the years, there's a lot more wrong than described, so I've told him I'm not buying it.

cheers Plank, he came back and said the speedo doesnt work at all, cable snapped in 2004 when clutch was done, well, that should have been in the ad, he has purposfully missed out key details about a car-which i would expect to have a working speedo-that makes the car dangerous to drive and i think legally it should be working? I dunno, regardless, the mileage is NOT correct thus making his advert misleading, so I get away with it as far as Ebay is concerend...

Thanks for the support, Plank, I appreciate it. Its not nice, but that's buying cases from you. I would have bought an honest car, but after reading the history and spotting the mileage discrepancy, I decided its not the project I'm after. To be honest, I knew eBay quite well, the guy will get any fees back, and at worse, I'll get a negative mark on my account.

Looking at my feedback, anyone can see I'm a good buyer, so I'm not worried, this is a one off and has only happened after new information being brought to light.

Good decision. When you get neg feedback I'd be making a call to report this mileage discrepency.

A seller can not leave a buyer bad feedback anymore! so don't worry about it, he is a low feedback seller who has a lot to learn about writing an honest listing. I have getting on for 900 points and 100% positive feedback, so speaking from experience I would just let this go now and move on.

yup, i read that for the MOT, the speedo doesnt have to work (because they dont drive it for the MOT) BUT, i believe legally, you are obliged to have a working speedo.....!

thanks for the support guys, I did feel bad about the last minute bid then grilling him for info, but i think i have also exposed either a genuine novice, or someone trying to get rid of a problem vehicle for more than scrap value...

its all sorted now. he did try to get £40 out of me for his fees etc, i told him no chance, but then ebay said i need to mail him and say do a mutual withdrawl case, so he did, now all sorted!:bow

my t2 has just gone through mot with the digital miles un readable as it has a way of being unreadable he just noted this on ticket
