hi,
i just bought a Nissan part no 25070-0Y710, this being a slightly updated version of the original.

Just a plug and play job, with exception to the "breather pipe" that is now part of the unit and has a gauze fixed over the end with some form of resin.

Question is - do i just let this dangle in the wind down beside my filters with risk of water/mud ingress or do some form of breather extension?? It appears common place to let it hang but that doesnt sit well with me.

any input welcome

PS cost me $185nz - approx 90 quid.

Cheers
Dave

Could you not extend the pipe and plumb it into the crankcase breather somehow:nenau:nenau

I think the "breather pipe" is that the unit can reference air pressure so connecting it to the engine breather system may not be a good idea, how about sealing it in a small plastic bag? this will keep it clean while still allowing it to reference air pressure, Rick

Hey guys,

after doing a fair bit of digging around all i can see are other patrols with this pipe just left as is.

Elty - i liked the idea of extending it to where the PCV valve drops into the intake/airbox but was unsure of what affect that would have, if any, on the function of the breather, last thing it needs is to be inhaling the crankcase fumes i thought.

Solarman - cracking idea thanks, which has just lead to me to thinking a small filter on it might help.

I cant seem to get a definitive answer on what that pipe is doing but the fact the pipe has its on filter leads me to believe its possible for it to suck in air and that means all sorts of crap in there.

I think i will extend it higher up the firewall.

cheers
Dave

I fitted it the other day, made a great difference to "steadiness" of my oil pressure which used to fluctuate more. Pressure is realised much quicker too.

Sorry Dave, had totally missed that this was in the Y60 section and not the Terrano part :doh

That's really interesting to hear about the difference it has made. I fitted a replacement Tridon sender last year and it's been a bit disappointing really as the gauge still fluctuates and when hot it's barely above the line at idle (dash light works though and the needle rises with revs, albeit lazily, so I haven't really worried about it).

I assumed my dash gauge was part of the problem as she is 30 years old and have fitting a seperate aftermarket gauge on the to do list at some point (along with seperate transmission temp and water temp gauges).

I'm now wondering if a new OEM sender would be worth trying though...

no worries bud, mine worked so well that it freaked me out a bit, honestly the way the gauge acts now is rather reassuring. I'll try get a wee clip so you can see.

everything you described above was same as mine and is now all sorted.

i have a family member heading back to the Uk in a few weeks - let me know if you want me to send one over, or any smaller parts for that matter.

cheers

That would be awesome mate, definitely up for that if that's possible :bow

I'll have a think but I think I'm okay for small bits at the moment... *feverishly touches wood*

no worries, let me know if yo think of anything.
We are currently looking at flights for end of September, once we get these booked i'll order you the same part as mine.

i hadn't started it in 4 days, its cold here at the minute too, took a few seconds to build oil pressure to "4" on the factory gauge and now only fluctuates between 3.5 and 4 on the gauge during the today.
the day i fitted it it was warm and it was almost instant when reaching the "4" on the gauge, for mine thats a great improvement.

All going well next week i'll throw a "real" gauge on and see what the PSI figures are too.

Cheers
