Hi All, I've already PM'd someone for advice regarding this but having a second look at the oil level I'm not 100% sure now. My first thoughts are that it is over filled a little caused by in my thoughts the poor design misleading the oil level indicator. According to the owners handbook the cut out area is the level indicator but looks to me that someone has taken the twists to be the level indicators.
So question is do you think it's over filled badly or ok to use?

Having to post twice as my photo bucket account is playing up.

First photo is the oil level indicator on the cleaned dipstick.

I'll have a look at mine when I get home Jim. I thought I had min and max markings on mine. :nenau

I'd give it a change anyway Jim. A little over 7ltrs with a filter change.

Any idea what grade of oil and semi synthetic or fully synthetic or even mineral like the 2.7?

Turns out that the drain plug has a slight weap causing a drip too so was going to get some sump plug washers and do it anyway.

Cheers

I use xt2000 15w40 semi by Comma. Haven't used anything else but I do change it every 5k and a filter as they're the paper ones.

Mine has the slot also (2004). Who said 7L? Think you will find Nissan quote it's 6.7! My experience is that it's more like 6.5L. The oil level should be checked when hot & after 1 or 2 mins. Over night it will show a marked rise.

Note that the turbo is not very forgiving of drastically overfilled sump.
BTW I use 5w40 full synth which does not show any loss in 5K miles, whereas 10w40 semi used 1/2L.

Would you say mine looks drastically over filled? That was after it had been stood for about 2 days.

Comma website says 6.7 and 0.5 for filter. I haven't ever measured what I've drained or took any notice exactly how much I've refilled it with. I just know I need to buy 2x5ltrs :nenau
I have read it's not good to run over full though.

Get it warmed up on the drive for a few mins then check it again like mick the shed says, it will probably go down but by how much is the question.

That is dangerously over full Jim, anywhere within the notched bit is good but towards the higher rather than the lower, Rick

Cheers Rick, she hasnt moved since I discovered it. Pity I couldn't of got the photos to you yesterday. Going to call in at a motor factor this week and get the oil and filter for it.
I still say it's a misleading design, I'll bet there will be more than mine running around over filled.

As has been said Jim, oil level should be checked after she's been running and has got up to running temp. You wait a few mins (I usually gave around 3-5) for the oil to drain back down and then check the level. If you check her cold it WILL look overfilled (manual even says this).

Assuming that level in your pic is the cold level after sitting you should be fine but only way to tell is by checking the level per my post above.

I remember when I checked Grandads when I first got it home, checked it hot and was just over 3/4 full (between the cuts in the spiral), checked it again cold and it had magically gained oil :lol :lol

Yes, this is my experience over the last year. It's a bit disconcerting at first but what also surprised me was how quickly the fresh oil turns black.

I've currently got mine in bits, cleaning out the airways, new front section for exhaust due to go on, Provent 200 half fitted and rest of NADS going on before it goes back on the road with fresh fluids and other checks. I'm taking photos and will put it in the projects section when I can.

Sorry for the hi-jack but I thought that you 3.0l owners would be interested in the "heads-up".

Cheers,

Mick
