Yes, this is my experience over the last year. It's a bit disconcerting at first but what also surprised me was how quickly the fresh oil turns black.

I've currently got mine in bits, cleaning out the airways, new front section for exhaust due to go on, Provent 200 half fitted and rest of NADS going on before it goes back on the road with fresh fluids and other checks. I'm taking photos and will put it in the projects section when I can.

Sorry for the hi-jack but I thought that you 3.0l owners would be interested in the "heads-up".

Cheers,

Mick

Can't wait for this:clap

Yeh Mick, Provent catch can will do the most for keeping the oil clean and then when you blank the EGR it will help again :thumb2

Have got Dawes boost control valve and needle valve winging their way to me :thumbs

Well guys, i sent my youngun out in the truck to get it warm. Left it for about ten minutes and then checked it and unfortunately it's still over filled.

Have been out and bought oil and filter today, just need to get a sump plug washer as it's dripping. So one evening this week I'll sort it out.

Leaving it 10 minutes is too long Jim, once up to operating temp you literally only leave it stopped about 3 mins and then check.

Had the level moved at all then Jim?

Im begining to wish id got a 2.7, far easier to deal with.

Level hachanged tdoug.

The sump plug needs a seal on it so it's going to stay down the drive until I can get a seal and then change the oil anyway.

Don't be like that Jim. Could have had the same problem ifit was a 2.7:nenau
It'll be fine. We're all here for you:naughty

Where on earth does all that dam oil go? Just did as advised and left it 3 to 4 minutes and checked it again. Sure enough it's fine. This will make filling the oil after an oil change difficult wont it.

Cheers guys

It's not too bad, after draining and filter just fill her up as you would normally, run her briefly to fill the filter then check again, fill her up to middle of the notches and go. Just need to remember and check again once she's up to operating temp. I used to change her at the farm, drive home 12 miles then check her and top up if necessary once home.

This checking level when hot is so hit and miss.
I've said before why isn't there a cold level mark that satisfies an engines requirement when hot.
Have a look at an auto transmission dipstick. They have a hot and cold fill mark.
Simple.
