Oil filter leaking ?

changed the oil filter a few months ago i know i put it on properly with seals and all ,
i noticed oil running doen the front of it a week ago i thought the was aleak from somewhere else dripping on it anyway it seems when i got down there and give a tighten up there was room for a half centimetre tighten cleaned it up,
but still seems to be leaking from the filter .
does anyone know wether this is a common occurence the filter is a blue one chinese writing on it ,could it be a cheap manufacture bad seals ,?:nenau

I think I would change the filter, part fill the new one with oil, then the engine won't wait too long for the oil lamp to go out.
I spent ages looking for a good filter. I got a Fram from motormania.

There are some naff ones around.
The Fram one is probably made in China as well.:nenau

:thumbsthe filter is the most difficult filter to get to ive ever changed in owning any car have you any good tips for ease of getting of because the last one i used a strap wrench just slipped then i tried chain just ate it the left it in such a crumpled state it would not revolve and you canb imagine mess as it was full still any hints:bow

A common way to get the oil filter off is to take off the front wheel and lift up or remove the rubber skirt so you can get to the oil filter easier.
Just remember you have to push up and turn the filter at the same time for it to grip to the thread for tightening up.

Bwfore you change the filter you should clean evrything around the area wit degreaser and then wipe it clean. There are several other sources of oil near the filter, eg. Oil pipes to turbo, vacuum pipe on the back of the alternator, etc. To change the filter stick a screwdriver through it, just be careful when you turn it.

I don't think it's a common occurence, but it did happen to me a couple of weeks ago, with a blue chinese filter that I bought from Euro Car Parts. I always have got away with doing Fram filters (which I usually buy) up a-quarter-over-hand-tight, but this filter had to be wacked round a bit further with a flat blat screwdriver and wooden mallet on the seam at the to of the filter. There was oil everywhere as well, which was a bugger to get off of all the bits below the filter.

Back to Fram for me next time, or a genuine Nissan, if I can find where to get one.

Always used genuine filters for this very reason...never had an issue, apart from removing it as previously stated.

yes its probably the same filter i put on light blue in colour with chinese writing on it so i take fram filters are the best then

Thank goodness for that, I fitted a Fram last week to the Mav, from Motormania.
After a lot of research.... The oil pressure light goes out 0.5 seconds after start up.

I tried to remove the filter from the top using a strap wrench but no joy, kept slipping off, I was ready to take front wheel off then I remembered a member used a rubber glove, so I tried it, undone in 0.5 of a second from the top.
Later on during the waxoyl phase I removed front wheel and inner rubber to get access to the front rusty bumper mount and there was the filter easy to get to.

So remove front wheel, secure on axle stands, I use 2 plus the jack and even place the wheel under the chassis. Much easier.

im getting a new filter not going the same motor factors again ,
and that sounds much easier but ive looked at the rubber cover and it doesnt look big enough to get your hand through is it the one in the passenger arch between the chassis and wing ?
maybe its just the way it looks if that is what youre referring to if you say you have done it then thats what im doing next because i had a right old mess the first one i done oil everywhere filter dented and crushed to hell and back but after many tedious revolutions i got it off ,just that the bloody thing is leaking now oh well we learn from our mistakes or someone elses im learning since becoming a member here thanks again

I have the same blue filter on mine and it does weep a bit not really enough to worry me but will be buying from nissan next time though!

i have always used blueprint brand filters , they are also light blue in colour get them from local jap motor factor . not sure if same as you mention , but never had any problems with them .
