Hi there,

Can someone tell me if what I have as a dipstick is the correct one. It looks like a tightly wound spring with a small plastic ovalish thing about an inch from it's end, but I can't see any level markings????

Yes I have seen that type, from memory (not good) I think it has a blip on the bottom and a flat portion, but sure I have one some place will try and look in the morning, have a feeling it might have been on the petrol version but will check it out, Rick

I had to change mine a few years back, for a longer one, as the old one didn't reach the oil. :lol:lol:lol

In truth, I had to buy a new dipstick for the picasso, as that genuinely stopped reaching the oil, as 2" of the lower plastic end broke off, in the engine somewhere... A new dip stick from the dealer was 30% cheaper than ebay at the time too, New one was a grp rod.

With oil changes with filter, for the Mav, I can never get the recommended amount of oil in, I stop short by a litre, then top up a little each time, wait for it to settle then top up again. Yes I have the original dip stick, but very difficult to see the oil level on it.

I think there is oil trapped in places that don't drain, but after 22 years of oil changes, doesn't seem to have done it any harm.

How many times a year do you change the oil and how many litres per change?

Looks familiar but no close up of the business end to lok at the plastic bit

That looks pretty much like mine did on my 2.7 r3mR, there were just slight nobble marks on the lower portion of plastic as I recall.

So, if this is the norm, where the hell is the high/low level/mark?

I was taking a good look at it and heck if I could see anything!

If it's just plain unmarked plasitc perhaps end is missing.

Might be as others have said that the tip has just broken off, mine had a pair of indents on either side one high up and one low down that corresponded to high & low - no lines as such my Jeep is very similar. If you have a Handbook might be worth checking.

the total length of mine from one end to the other is 65cm:augie top of handle to tip

looks like the end has broken i bet the bit missing would be the marks on the thinner part that normaly would be there i stand to be corrected if i am wrong:nenau

The bulge before the tip looks strange ?

Looking at the picture it seems oddly fat before the end bit - like a fishing float.lol

Yes that dip stick is broke I have a conventional flat metal one if you want it, I have a flexible one same as yours but the top yellow handle is damaged although it is quite functional, but not able to do anything now for 10 days as away on my jollies as of early tomorrow am, Rick

To get you by, high level is just below the small pea lump, low would not register on your broken one, Rick

And it will fit my 2.7?

I have just sent you a message Rick.
