Glad to see you are still about, look forward to hearing the results, Rick

Hi Rick! yeah, i'm still around!

spent some weeks on the Dolomites, but once again without my truck.. I wanted to move it as less as possible before the overhauling.

let's hoper this time to fix the problem once forever!

this morning i had a call with the mechanic, and the news were not good..

he dismounted the head for the overhauling.
the head has two cracks in two combustion chambers, and that's not a huge problem. the main problem is that two pistons are cracked and the related cylinders have signs of seizure.

i'm waiting for some pictures to share with you and for an idea of the price of such an interention.

at least we figured out where all the oil is leaking in the combustion chamber

we're evaluating every way..
an engine could be an option, for sure, but even on a spare engine i'd check the head and overhaul the turbo before putting it in place since it's still an used engine, and it'd be stupid not to do this with the engine on the table!

we're waiting for the price evaluation to repair mine, so we'll be able to compare it with the option of the new engine.

let's wait and see..

well.. i'll let you know sth as soon as we've figured out how to proceed!

thanks a lot, mate! in any case i owe you and Rick a beer for your help.. I hope to be there some day cruising with my truck!

You're always welcome mate, we'll take you on some cool adventures in the UK

Here we are again with some updates!

The estimation for all the work was about 6k€.. sounds high, but it includes new pistons and segments, new cylinder, new complete head, new rods bushings, overhauled turbo, liquids, oils, gaskets and all the working hours needed. and the resoult would be a brand new engine.

but it's still a recreational truck, and we're not ready to spend such amount of money, though I understand the quality of the job.

after some browsing, I eventually found a spare engine from a Terrano maniac as us. 450€ for an incomplete engine with 180k km (170k km less than mine!). it misses turbo (i'll install mine overhauled), injection pump (mine has been overhauled 5k km ago). same Bosch injection system as mine.

Of course, we're going to dismount and check the head, change all the necessary gaskets and make all the strategic maintenance since it's on the table.

and I'll also change the clutch: since i don't know when it's been changed last time, it would be stupid not to take advantage of having the whole engine off.

today the courier has left the engine at the workshop.. let's see if tere will be more surprises!
i'll keep you updated

Hi folks! good news eventually after a lot of struggling..

the truck is now being tested by the mechanic as he finished all the work.

spares shipping times has been a pain in the ass: up to 20 working days for the heat exchanger gasket!!

spares itself has been another pain in the ass: wrong clutch bushing in the brand new clutch kit, for example..

while the truck was sitting in the workshop waiting for spares I had the wonderful idea of badly braking my ankle while climbing, so i needed some repairs too!

but eventually everything's almost finished. i'm waiting for the final call from the mec so i can bring the truck back home.

swapped my 350k km engine with a used 180k km unit, changed all the gaskets, head and turbo has been overhauled, new water pump, new clutch (it wasn't faulty, but with the engine on the bench it'd be stupid not to change it), starter motor overhauled (sometimes the solenoid didn't move, causing the fuse to blow).

moreover my ankle is almost healed and i can operate the clutch pedal again!

So basically, a brand new truck and a brand new titanium ankle, can't wait to try both and see the difference!

i'll keep you updated..

Glad it has all come together, albeit over a long time frame, wait to hear how it performs, Rick

Allora in bocca al lupo per il tuo " nuovo " motore , e soprattutto per la nuova anca in titanio

Giacomo

Hi Rick,
just soft chatting! Giacomo was wishing me luck for the new engine and ankle, and i was thanking him adding that i should bring the truck back home this week.

hopefully i'll be able to share some pics of the new engine soon
