Hi, i have recently experienced a loss of power from my 99 TDI and have changed the maf but this had made no difference. It is not a major loss of power but it is not as quick as it use to be and therefore i am starting to look else where. I have removed and checked the pipes from the turbo and the two pipes either side of the intercooler and there is a small amount of wet oil residue present. I was reading a thread which suggested removing the oil seperator and replacing it with an oil catcher. Does anyone have any pictures of where to fit the catcher and which pipes to connect. I have also seen an american thread suggesting taking off the intercooler and cleaning it by pouring in a cleaning fluid and leaving for a couple of hours. Has anyone done this and if so what fluid did they use?
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi i've done all the above:thumb2cleaning out the intercooler is very easy to do, I turned it upside down & filled it with parafin & left it to soak for about an hour emptied it out & refilled it again for 1/2 hour then rinced it out with a hose pipe:augieto speed up the drying time I put my wifes air drier into one of the openings (nice snug fit) & put it onto full heat & power for 1/2 hour:thumb2If you can PM me your email address i'll take some pic's of my catch tank, fittings & where i've mounted it.
As yours is a 1999 model like mine I would be tempted to have a look to see if yours has a mini filter like mine did:dohyou'll find it inside of the banjo bolt itself not in the pump like the earlier models

If I wanted to fit an Oil catch tank to my 1997 2.7tdi would I need one with 2 inlets and 1 outlet, i.e. 1 for the crankcase, 1 for rocker cover and 1 to the turbo ?

Most of the one's I've seen only have 1 in and 1 out ?

is there one to recommend ?

Grateful for help.

thanks

Mine only has 1 inlet/outlet:D I took the feed pipe from the Nissan oil catch tank to the induction pipe ( the pipe fron the air box to turbo) & fed it to the new oil catch tank & fitted a small filter to the outlet on the of the new tank. I then blocked off the induction pipe by fitting a small length of rubber hose which I put an old core plug inside & secured it with a hose clip oh & some elecy tape:lol

oilcatcher and intercooler

i have a 2001 tdi that definitely is not 100 per cent on power, know this as i have experienced it running better though only for a short time, been checking most things that get mentioned on here, cleaned pipes and intercooler etc., absolutely no difference. i am still hoping i might just read a thread one day that gives me the answer,i have read everything on this site to no avail,
i hope maybe it may work for you and please say if it does as too many threads end with no outcome or miss the point,i am getting to the stage where i am going to have to bite the bullet and get a full nissan on board diagnostic check. if you have a mini filter then removing or cleaning that could well be the solution,i have not got one but my engine feels that its just not getting enough juice through, good luck and hope you get it sorted.

So where does the outlet of the new tank go to ?

i have tried to write a question but dont know how? i think i have the same problem there is some sort of breather thing next to intercooler (front bottom right when at bonnet front) whichs connects into air intake pipe to turbo, between maf and turbo its leaking oil down pipe and onto turbo dont know what to do any help would be great and also how do you post new member? thanks very much 97 2.7 tdi se lwb

OK, I've got one from the rocker, one to the turbo and one to the crankcase , which I assume is an outlet to drain the oil. So possibly there's a block down to the crankcase, hence why there is excess oil to the turbo . Yes ?

I don't think you'll have a blockage more likely the Nissan oil catch tank/valve is getting past it:rolleyes: the oil vapour gets super heated on it's way from the rocker cover to the valve where it drains back to the sump as it has to pass through housing so some of it ends getting sucked into the induction system. You'll be surprized at how hot the vapour gets:augieafter fitting my catch tank you can see what looks like smoke/steam coming out of the filter once the engine is up to temp. TBH I think it's just another bad set up from Nissan like the steering set up:rolleyes::augie

Is the "Nissan oil catch tank/valve " the same as the blow-by control valve that I have ?

Only I have a pipe from the rocker to this "valve" which I can't see how it gets super-heated.

I 'm getting more confused
