Sure you get to the bottom of this.

Are you going to have some sort of International/European recovery cover in place for piece of mind should anything happen?

Yes that's all taken care of a small fortune on it's own, just got back from the garage minus my troll, it's been diagnosed as a turbo issue. That's gonna be expensive!

But how did it drive after the incident at the lights?
I thought it was behaving ok?
Turbo!...seems a little weird.

Yeah that’s what I thought, it did drive ok. I have noticed a lot of turbo lag lately, but I have used the garage for the last 20 years and I do trust them and I’m not an expert so I can’t really argue the toss. He was telling me that the ecu had indicated a long term issue with under boosting and that the spindle in the turbo was quite sloppy. I had intended at some point to replace the turbo purely as it’s done 110K but not 3 days before my trip. They have ruled out the TPS so as long as it’s sorted before my trip I don’t have a lot of choice :nenau

Turbo on the 3 is a very different biesty it has variable something or other that is ecu controlled, so yes lots of pennies but quite likely the problem, Rick

We will soon see when I get it back, if there’s no vids of me on holiday then you know it all went Pete tong 😲😲

I know it doesn't leave much time for you Wheelie, but better you find out now than on the ferry I guess!
Fingers crossed for you to.!

Davey

Variable Geometry Turbo Rick.
The vanes actually adjust with boost pressure I believe!

Hi Davey
Yes it was a case of get it done, risk it or kiss good bye to the holiday so I opted for the first option. Had an update from the garage today, all going well should be ready by lunchtime tomorrow, 🤞🏻🤞🏻They said they tested the old one and it was locking up because the spindle was so worn even when cold

Another reason to keep on top of servicing and using quality oils:thumb2

Hi Blocky I agree, it’s been well looked after mechanical since I’ve owned it but you can’t budget for previous owners, although I have a shed load of history from when I bought it.

That's right pal. Hopefully be ok for another 100k :D

Quick update, new turbo is now in and road tested all ok, the garage tell me that when they done the live data test originally I was getting 0.4 bar of boost, with the new turbo I’m now getting 1.4 bar of boost I’m also told it now runs a lot better than it previously did. Collecting it in the morning and going to take it for a good test before I go. :clap:clap

An extra bar of boost  It'll feel like a supercar:lol Fingers crossed

Pleased to hear the good news, sounds like a good garage. Enjoy the holiday and that extra boost.

Cheers, as I’ve said used them for the last 20 years and I have a good relationship with them, I was really hoping they wouldn’t let me down and it seems as they haven’t

I think we were all getting a bit concerned for you Wheelie, just hours before You’re departure.
Best news Matey, well done!
Readings in the morning please!
D
